The reason many of us are “so independent” is because we grew up in homes where needing help was met with criticism. We’ve adapted to not needing others, because of what it costs to want help & instead of getting it, we got hurt. Independence isn’t a choice but an act of survival
If you have to earn it, it’s not love. If it requires you muting yourself, it’s not respect. If it costs you your health, it’s not worth it. There is one shot at this life and it’s meant to be lived with those who love seeing you loved.
To those who have remained sensitive and caring while growing up in environments where those were used against them: You are a gift. You are brave. You deserve respect. You deserve peace. There are many you don’t know who are glad you are the way you are.
