@socialimmedia Actually think the zoned areas of Baldur's Gate 3 and the way they gradually reveal the ultimate danger manages it pretty well. It feels like holding some info back about the final big bad in the first act has multiple advantages.
@betty_egg That's so sick. The challenge and the stakes make those moments where you clutch so memorable, it's a special game that is able to generate those kinds of memories
@soundbybiru@Geezaws2 The UESC sounds are SO iconic and excellent. They capture something really specific and sinister that I've never heard before. Best of luck in finding your next role 💙
@LegoKingo I remember showing things to my parents as a kid that I was SO excited about and my Dad saying, in so many words, that it's just a variation on themes that have been explored so many times before. As a kid that response frustrated me and now I almost take a certain comfort in it
@LegoKingo I feel like as I age (32! Young still but-), I'm accepting that some media is a solid execution of tropes done many times before, but refreshed with a new generation's vernacular. All that to say I agree with you and also think that's where a lot of the excitement comes from 😅
@poeticdweller@domesticetch Lol sorry I'm being a dick but I don't have ill will towards you. I don't understand what your invocation of unlearned taste has to do with the original article, which I feel is about cultivating taste intentionally, not saying every person can and should invent from scratch
@poeticdweller@domesticetch And to be clear on what that thing is: people encounter the world and react. They engage with their and others' reactions and seek things out. They form attachments to places, to media. Subcultures exist. People express their taste by MAKING things, non commercially.
@poeticdweller@domesticetch Why do you believe a reaction that is a blank slate influenced by no sociality is the benchmark for true taste? Very classically academic and tiresome to invent something impossible and use it to argue against the existence of something else intuitively recognizable in the world
@staycationtg I am level 20 and still getting my first capstone for each faction but cyac, and loving the game! It kinda drives me crazy people who think the only content bar that matters is for people who have a full gold vault and are in cryo ten times on day 1
@LegoKingo Actually think this criticism possibly better applies to TOTK/BOTW in that every verb and interaction is introduced to you in the tutorial zone and all you have left are variations on themes. I miss the recurring revelation of new item acquisitions if I'm being honest.
