The EU age verification app is presented as “completely anonymous”. But the risk is that member states (the countries are supposed to create their own versions of the open-source EU app) use it to introduce identity verification that makes it impossible to post anonymously on social media.

The idea behind “completely anonymous” is to use Zero-Knowledge Proof (ZKP) cryptography to break the link between the age credential issuer (EU governments) and the regulated services/sites. Currently, the EU app does not have ZKP functionality, contrasting Ursula von der Leyen’s claim that the app ”is technically ready to be used”. But more importantly, the app is designed to always function without ZKP technology; if ZKP is unavailable, the app falls back to a non-ZKP model. Even if fully developed ZKP technology could be implemented in the future, it would remain an optional extra feature that countries may choose to disable and that the EU could remove at any time.

This means that the EU could decide at any time that ZKP may no longer be used, and in one stroke the app would fall back to its default mode, meaning that every post on social media carries an ID tag. By that point, an infrastructure will already have been rolled out; people will have gotten used to it, and it will be harder to roll it back.

Quick BTC update. In the ten years I’ve been here, this is by far the most subdued sentiment I’ve seen. It’s understandable, but the extent is striking -- especially in light of a favorable policy climate in DC, continued sovereign and corporate accumulation, etc.

While overleveraged traders are getting blown out on dips, a sovereign wealth fund like Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala is happy to sit on the bid and take it in.

For traders and investors looking to take advantage of this type of environment, the key is to watch for when price starts to diverge positively from depressed sentiment. For assets in long-term uptrends, that's when huge percentage gains can happen. This was certainly true for eventual winners like AMZN in the years after the tech bust a quarter-century ago; sentiment was terrible, but price gradually started to diverge upwards, quietly regaining levels that were previously lost and reflecting the long-term underlying growth story.

I just read the entire Migration and the 2030 Agenda: A Guide for Practitioners, and if you strip out all the humanitarian, climate-change and “progress for humanity” language, here’s what it boils down to.

They want a managed global population with no stubborn rooted majorities, no strong old-world identities, and no independent power centers, so they suppress Western fertility through pharmakia, food and water contamination, psychological warfare and propaganda, then present the resulting demographic collapse as a neutral problem and “solve” it with permanent mass migration that keeps the debt economy running, dilutes historic white/Christian populations, breaks social cohesion, and justifies a thick web of surveillance, speech control, NGO management and UN-style governance over human bodies, borders, labour and money until most people are interchangeable, trackable units in a post-national, post-Christian, post-ethnic grid.
