From earlier: Grads walking out of Stanford Stadium as Google CEO Sundar Pichai took the stage to deliver his commencement speech. Some carried signs protesting Google’s US government contracts. “ICE spies with Google AI,” one sign read. @BBCWorld
Stanford Graduates have walked out 🤯
Sundar Pichai was about to start his speech and the students walked out
Some say the protest is because of Google’s involvement in Project Nimbus (a cloud computing contract jointly held with Amazon to provide cloud and artificial intelligence services to the Israeli government)
And also because of how the deep tech companies and AI are rapidly eating away the jobs of millions and creating unparalleled wealth inequality
Top CEOs and VCs have called this act abhorrent
In India, these students would have been called part of Deep State organising against the tech giants of the country 🥲
Well over 100 Stanford students walked out of Google CEO Sundar Pichai’s commencement speech at Stanford just now, chanting “Free, free Palestine.” Google has a cloud contract with the Israeli government. Lots of boos and cries of “shame on you” as well
The stupidity of these @Stanford students to take the greatest opportunity for equality in humanity ever and to really free humanity and go walk out on @google and @sundarpichai that's pioneered that. Biased, idiotic, short-sighted and very selfish. Selfish because they ignored the bottom 3 billion people on this planet that could benefit from AI and they are worried about their misinformed selfish self-interest.

Hundreds of students walked out during Google CEO Sundar Pichai’s commencement address at Stanford University, protesting the company’s government contracts and ethical concerns around its work with controversial agencies.
The demonstration was directed at Google, with students criticising its involvement in contracts linked to military and government bodies, including ties to Israeli military cloud services through Project Nimbus and the US immigration enforcement agency ICE.
As Pichai began speaking, groups of graduates left the stadium, waved banners, and joined organised protest activity outside the ceremony.
Some students later attended an alternative gathering where speakers highlighted opposition to Big Tech involvement in state surveillance and military technology.
Stanford grads walk out as Google CEO Sundar Pichai takes the stage as commencement speaker. No mention of AI, unlike other uni speakers getting booed down this year. Story for @sfgate shortly
BREAKING: Stanford University graduates staged a walkout during Google CEO Sundar Pichai’s keynote address at commencement Sunday.
The walkout was organized by Students for Justice in Palestine and No Tech for Apartheid as a protest against Google’s contracts with the IDF, Dept. of Homeland Security, and ICE.
🔴 An estimated 100 to 200 Stanford students walked out of Google CEO Sundar Pichai’s commencement address Sunday, chanting “Free, free Palestine,” as boos and cries of “shame on you” were directed at Pichai from parts of the crowd. The protest targeted Google’s Project Nimbus cloud contract with the Israeli government, which includes services for the Defense Ministry and other state agencies as the country commits genocide in Gaza and ethnically cleanses Lebanon.

🚨 NEW: More than 1,500 Palestinian patients have died waiting for medical evacuation as more than 16,500 remain trapped in Gaza, the Health Ministry says.
Gaza’s Health Ministry said Israel is preventing more than 16,500 patients in need of treatment abroad from leaving the Strip, despite the ceasefire in place since October.
Acting Undersecretary Maher Shamiya said more than 1,500 patients who had received medical referrals died before they could be evacuated. Only 1,204 patients have been allowed to leave through the Rafah and Karem Abu Salem crossings since limited medical evacuations resumed on February 1, 2026, after the crossings had been closed for roughly 20 months.
Shamiya said Israel was systematically obstructing access to life-saving treatment through prolonged security procedures and severe restrictions at the crossings. He added that many of the patients could be treated inside Gaza if Israel stopped blocking the reconstruction of the territory’s devastated healthcare system and allowed the entry of essential medicines, fuel, and medical supplies.
He warned that “every day of delay increases the number of victims and threatens the lives of more patients.” The Health Ministry has previously said 6 to 10 patients die each day from treatable diseases or injuries because they cannot access the care they need.

Just in: A video from inside a court in occupied Jerusalem shows Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya appearing via video link and attempting to speak with his attorney before Israeli court security blocked the screen and terminated the call, preventing journalists from filming the exchange or the video appearance.
I listened carefully to what the attorney was saying to Dr. Abu Safiya. It appeared that Dr. Abu Safiya could not hear him. The attorney repeatedly stated that he could neither see nor hear Dr. Abu Safiya after his “captors turned off the camera.” He also informed him that some people were present in the courtroom to show their support and that they were waiting for the judge to arrive so that he could be brought back on screen before the court addressed the appeal.
This is Israel’s democracy. Dr. Abu Safiya has been subjected to starvation, abuse, and cruel torture, and this latest development only adds to concerns about the conditions he has endured and the lack of public scrutiny surrounding his case.
🚨 BREAKING: U.S. launches new strikes on Iran as explosions reported near the Strait of Hormuz
U.S. Central Command said American forces began carrying out additional “self-defense strikes” against multiple targets in Iran at 5:15 p.m. ET, saying the attacks were ordered by President Trump and claiming they were launched in response to Iran’s “continued aggression.” CENTCOM did not cite any new Iranian attack.
As the strikes were announced, Iranian media reported a series of explosions across Hormozgan province, the southern Iranian province that borders the Strait of Hormuz:
◽️ Sirik: At least four explosions were heard in the coastal town on the eastern side of the strait, according to Tasnim News, with a local source saying the blasts were coming from the sea.
◽️ Minab: An explosion was reported near the city, about 60 miles east of Bandar Abbas, according to Mehr News.
◽️ Korgan Port: Several explosions were also heard near the port area on the Gulf of Oman coast, according to Mehr News.
◽️ Bandar Abbas: An explosion was also reported in Iran’s main commercial port and naval hub overlooking the Strait of Hormuz, according to the **Fars Gulf Broadcasting Center
An eight-year-old boy, Jad Suleiman, was killed by shrapnel from an Israeli airstrike Monday while walking home from school in the Jabaliya refugee camp in northern Gaza.
Drop Site reported from Shifa hospital where his father clutched his son’s bloodied backpack and asked, “What was his crime?” As global attention shifts to the wars on Iran and Lebanon, and Gaza’s so-called ceasefire enters its ninth month, the genocide there continues to intensify. May was the deadliest month of 2026 for Palestinians in Gaza, with at least 119 killed including 19 children according to the Health Ministry in Gaza, and at least 46 more have been killed in the first nine days of June alone. Israel has also restricted the entry of life essentials into Gaza, allowing only 36% of agreed-upon aid and 15% of required fuel—leaving 77% of Gaza’s population facing acute food insecurity, according to the World Food Program.

🇵🇸: Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya asked his lawyer to deliver a message to his son: “If you can reach Anas al-Sharif, ask him to remind the world of our cause and our suffering.”
He didn’t know that Israel assassinated Anas in August 2025.
Israel has illegally detained Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya for 500+ days and has now placed him in solitary confinement.
