AI has sped up design, argues @zkdeocadiz, one of the winners of BKC and @techpolicypress' essay contest. The greater the speed, the deeper the power differentials inherent in the design process:
"These shorter development cycles also lead to shrinking windows of agency for designers to intervene in decisions that may serve company goals but run counter to what they believe is best for users." https://t.co/Z4bRAbewTU
BKC is pleased to announce the results of our inaugural student essay contest in collaboration with @techpolicypress.
These contributions from students across @Harvard explore the ways in which AI systems intersect with power and the public interest as part of a series titled, “Agency, Trust, and Governance in the Age of AI.”

ICYMI, meet Encrypted Spaces, a @TheLabBKC project developed in close collaboration with @MSFTResearch.
As its ASML principal investigator @notjamesmickens explains, the project “allows users to access the benefits of cloud-based services (e.g., always-available data and cross-device syncing) without forcing them to reveal sensitive information to people outside of trusted groups.” 🔏
A new research effort called Encrypted Spaces explores an architecture for collaborative applications where data is encrypted, and operations are cryptographically verifiable. Learn more: https://t.co/t7qkE27Xdh
BKC’s @TheLabBKC is thrilled to launch Encrypted Spaces, an open-source architecture for collaboration tools, enabling servers to store, inspect, and process only the data that we choose.
Encrypted Spaces has been developed in close collaboration with @MSFTResearch Cryptography and Security group, and currently seeks external feedback that could shape the future of this new technology.
Congrats to the ASML team, Nora Trapp, @meghann & @notjamesmickens
