- “When an Artist reaches that level of cultural influence, the question is no longer "why don't they have a Grammy?" It's "Why does the Grammys still need to convince the world it can recognise artists like BTS?”

CONGRATULATIONS SUGA
When I look back over these 13+ years, what I think I’m most proud of is that ARMY really has made Bangtan untouchable.
Their blood, sweat, and tears provided the music, performances, messages, and vision.
Ours provided the safety net, freedom & support to make it happen.
"Grammys will go ahead with an Asian pop category, without the group that made it necessary and whoever wins it will be handed a question along with the trophy.
Until the Academy answers it, BTS’s absence is going to be the loudest thing in the room"
— Weverse Magazine
— BTS Walking Away From The Grammys Says More About The Academy Than The Band
For years, BTS boosted the Grammys' global reach. Their decision not to submit challenges the Academy's idea of what global music deserves.
Then came the hiatus, something that would have slowed almost every global act. Instead, BTS became even bigger. While the members fulfilled their military service, their solo careers flourished, their catalogue continued breaking streaming records and the fandom only grew stronger. Now, with the group reunited, demand for their world tour has reached such extraordinary levels that additional stadium dates have reportedly been added in cities around the globe, simply because the original schedule couldn't accommodate the number of people trying to attend. Most artists fight to stay relevant after a three-year break. BTS returned to stadiums that were already too small.

BTS and Grammy Awards
By Min Seong-jae
“From that perspective, BTS’s decision to decline the Grammys is entirely understandable. The group no longer needs validation from the Grammys to establish its artistic legitimacy. If anything, the relationship has reversed. Given BTS’s immense global influence, one could argue that the Grammys now benefit more from recognizing BTS than BTS does from winning a Grammy…….The real significance of this episode extends far beyond one award category. It signals a world in which cultural authority no longer flows in only one direction, from West to East. Global audiences, rather than traditional gatekeepers, increasingly determine who matters. In that new landscape, institutions such as the Grammys will have to adapt to a more genuinely global cultural order because the world’s biggest artists no longer need Western approval to become global icons.”

BTS decision to not submit to the Grammys signaled their next stage of growth. BTS demonstrated self-validation by being sure of their worth and the worth of Asian artists.

“BTS’ decision to not submit to the Grammys signaled their next stage of growth. They demonstrated self-validation by being sure of their worth—and the worth of Asian artists—and no longer needing the validation of a Western award to prove that they’re good enough.”
