Things that clicked for me on ZEC:
• Halo 2 removed the trusted setup for the current pool. Older Sprout/Sapling circuits used Groth16. Orchard → Ironwood uses Halo 2 + PLONKish, so no ceremony and no “toxic waste” risk for new shielded value.

• The anonymity set is the shielded pool, not the whole chain. That’s why shielded share matters. It’s around 29% of supply now. More coins inside = stronger privacy for everyone actually using it.

• ZIP 2005 quantum-recoverable notes in Ironwood don’t make Zcash post-quantum today. They leave a recovery path if elliptic-curve crypto ever breaks. Rare to see that baked into the note format itself.

• Next is NU7: ~25s blocks instead of 75s, plus higher shielded throughput. Private money that confirms closer to a card swipe is the real roadmap, not just “another privacy coin.”
