Where were all these loud, powerful pastors who are suddenly everywhere online attacking VDM and defending their fellow religious figures? Where were their voices when Nigerians were crying for leadership, accountability, and someone, anyone, to speak against the killings, kidnapping, banditry and suffering ravaging this country?

Where were they when ordinary Nigerians were being terrorised in their homes, on the roads and in their communities?

But now that the spotlight is finally reaching their doorstep, suddenly there is outrage. Suddenly there are threats. Suddenly everyone has something to say.

This hypocrisy is exactly what many Nigerians are beginning to question.

I genuinely pity Christians who have been made to believe that they cannot know God for themselves without a pastor standing between them and God. You have a Bible. You have a conscience. You have the ability to question, think, investigate and seek God for yourself.

A pastor is not God. A church is not God. A pulpit is not a throne.

And no pastor should be treated as though questioning him is the same thing as questioning God.

The day Christians wake up and realise that faith does not require blind obedience to religious personalities, many of these systems of control will begin to collapse.

You cannot remain silent while people are being killed, kidnapped and destroyed, then suddenly discover your voice when criticism reaches your own circle.

And please, spare us the religious manipulation where desperate members are constantly told to “bring money to God” as though God needs a pastor’s bank account to answer prayers.

God does not need your money.

Question everything. Read the Scriptures yourself. Think for yourself. Hold religious leaders accountable. And stop confusing loyalty to a pastor with loyalty to God.

If your faith cannot survive questions, then perhaps what you have been defending all along is not faith, it is an institution.
