Please PLEASE don’t let one person (on either side of this conversation) sway you to not get all of the good things that this buddy read can do. TAKE WHAT YOU NEED and throw the rest away. (6/6) https://t.co/I9LaVkcVwY
Initially I wasn’t going to address the chaos that unfolded in regards to the live show and the name dropping of other black creators in the community, however it is incredibly unfortunate and disheartening to see the discourse surrounding this that is happening (1/6)
It is absolutely heart breaking and it’s hard to feel like a valued member of the community with interactions like this. It is nerve wracking to speak up, especially when I’ve seen so much hate about the live, but if there is any growth at all from this — it’s worth saying. (5/6)
If you are a black creator that was tagged to be a part of the discussion and you would like to participate, please DM this account! We've tried to follow everyone who was suggested, and are still looking for participants! The live show is Friday at 7pm CST.
Today we will be taking suggestions and tomorrow vote on the most suggested charities, and then make the donation. We chose to do it this was so that you still have a say in where your money goes. Again, thank you so much for all of the support! (2/2)
We are ready to make our donation of over $1000 to the BLM cause! Thank you so much for all of the money you all helped raise! As many of you know, The Minnesota Freedom fund is asking for donations to be sent elsewhere. Where would you like to see this donation go? (1/2)
White Fragility will remain one of the two picks for the Blackout Buddy Read. If you would like more information on why, please feel free to watch this video! https://t.co/dudQip42H3
It has been brought to our attention that there is the use of the n-word in one of our buddy read picks, White Fragility. It is not our intention to support the use of derogatory language, especially by a white author in regards to black people, we are investigating (1/3)
further into whether or not this work is still appropriate for this buddy read. Our goal is education and productive conversation about the topics of race and discrimination. We do not claim that either book represents our beliefs, they are simply to open dialogue. (2/3)
Happy first day of the Blackout Buddy Read! Y’all we are 17 shirts away from being able to make a $1000.00 donation! If you haven’t purchased your shirt, you can do at the link below! Tell your friends! ✊🏾🖤 https://t.co/4T6PF6Tozd
“What was really at work here was white rage. With so much attention focused on the flames, everyone had ignored the logs, the kindling.” Dr. Carol Anderson, White Rage
If you are wanting to participate in the Blackout Buddy Read but can not find the books, a great place to start is watching the talks and interviews that both of the authors are participating in. Please watch this, it is powerful!
