Twice a Citizen

Meet Dr. Jason Baker, a true example of service and dedication! Not only is he a Professor of Music and Coordinator of Percussion Studies at Mississippi State University since 2004, where he inspires students and leads the Famous Maroon Band's drumline, but he's also a Reserve Officer with the Starkville Police Department. 🚔🎶

In July 2023, Jason joined the Starkville Police Department team. He's since graduated from the Monroe County Sheriff's Department's Reserve Academy and has committed many hours to serving our community as an officer. He truly embodies the spirit of "twice a citizen.”

This is the first in a series to highlight our reserve officers. Reserve officers typically have full-time jobs outside of law enforcement, allowing them to bring diverse perspectives and skills to the Starkville Police Department.

Our "They Rocked the Hump" halftime show from this Fall has been selected for a juried presentation at the upcoming @CBDNA_National Southern Division Conference at @uofmemphis! Our students deserve the credit for this because they performed the show so well. #HailState
