Now, it is almost impossible for me to go to bed without praying.

It feels like a sin now. It is impossible. But last night was another discovery.

Around 2 AM, I wanted to sleep because I had to wake up by 6 AM to lead prayers here with the 9–5ers.

But I didn’t want to sleep without offering the fruit of thanksgiving to God.

So I decided to “pray a little.”

That was it. “Pray a little” turned into praying much longer. In fact, I almost spent my regular prayer time.

It dawned on me: our default is to pray. Our default is to be holy. Our default is to love God.

Listen to Paul. He said the life we live is not ours, it is Christ living in us:

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me…” (Galatians 2:20)

He went further and said it is God who wills and acts in us to do His good pleasure:

“For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” (Philippians 2:13)

These are heavy words. Powerful words.

I discovered last night that when men are ready, God empowers.

Months ago, I made a decision: never to go to bed without praying.

It was inconsistent at first, but now it is a default.

And it will only get better.

I am writing this to tell you that you can simply decide to do things.

You can decide to be holy.

I told you how I was overwhelmed by lust and the strong urge to fornicate when I came to Lagos.

It was drowning me. But I cried out, “I would rather die than sleep with someone who is not my wife.”

Well, since then, it has become law for me. If you ever hear that Lekan committed adultery, it is not me.

I truly would rather die untimely than commit adultery.

It is better to be with the Lord earlier than scheduled than to live long waiting for the damnation of hell.

That was a detour. But my point is this: decide to be fervent, at any cost.

You have no excuse. We have no excuse.

I have discovered that as Christians, we truly have no excuse not to be devoted to God.

I pray God helps us. Amen.
