I met Robert like 10 years back
He was living with his beautiful daughter Essie, had earlier divorced with the mom when she was 3 months & the mom insisted she wants to leave her behind.
We started dating & later got married.
I loved Essie & took care of her like she was mine, even decided to wait conceiving untill she was old enough.
Seven years down the road, her mom came back to claim her, saying she's the only family she has & can't live without her.
I indeed wondered, when she left her behind, wasn't she her only family?
At first I thought she was kidding, she wasn't.
She even went court, we also chose to do our best fight for our daughter. Presented all the receipts, medical records we had. Got witnesses too, the neighbors who saw us go through the hustle of raising a newborn till date.
After presenting everything the the court choose to allow Essie make her choice. Her mom did and said all she could to convince her, explaining how she was her mom by blood.
Essie made a statement that got me crying, "am happy to finally meet you mom, but I've grown seeing her be my real mom". My girl came crying to me, called me mom in the middle of the court room.
I cried.
That's how we got out daughter back.
Sometimes family is not only blood but the love we show each other.
Eight years ago, my mother introduced me to the woman who would become my wife.
She already had a 4-year-old daughter.
I knew the little girl wasn’t mine, and I never had a problem with that. I loved her mother, and I quickly grew attached to her daughter too.
Immediately after our wedding, I traveled out of state for work.
I was gone for two years.
When I returned, her daughter was 6 years old.
She ran to me at the airport and hugged me like I had never left.
From that day, I decided I would be there for her, whether she called me Dad or not.
Six years passed.
That little 6-year-old girl became a 10-year-old, and she had become one of the most important people in my life.
Then, two years ago, my wife and I had our son.
He is now 2 years old.
I thought we were a happy family……
Something happened yesterday that made me rethink how I treat people.
My neighbor and I live across from each other.
I’ve opened the gate for him at least four times when I noticed he was waiting and the security guard wasn’t around.
Yesterday, I was the one stuck at the gate.
I honked. Nothing.
Then I saw him nearby, washing his car.
He told me the security guard wasn’t around.
So I got out, opened the gate myself, drove through, then got out again to close it.
I don’t know why, but that one moment bothered me.
Not because opening a gate is a big deal.
I just thought…
“After all those times I helped you, you could’ve helped me this once.”
Is it bad that I felt he could have helped me with the gate?
My new manager told me on day one, "I trust you completely, I'm not a hoverer." I almost cried with relief.
My last boss, Denise, made us log our screen time in a shared doc every single hour.....
My family wasn't in support of me getting married just after college. They believed it's good I first get a job & secure my future.
Maybe they were right...
Besides my boyfriend was much older and divorced. They didn't think he's into marriage.
At first he proved them wrong, was always by my side throughout the first months of my pregnancy.
In our 5th month we went for a scan which read we have twins🥰 we were so happy or so i thought.
Bse that's the last time he slept home.
From emergency business trips, trainings and the likes.
He just never came back home.
I started starving as there was no food in the house, then sickness came in too.
I really needed to go to the hospital yet I didn't have money.
Couldn't even think of going home, they were so mad at me.
One day I met my sister in town, was worried at first but told her. She took me to the hospital, did the necessary tests & it turned out the babies were nolonger safe inside & they had to do surgery & get them out.
I tried reaching out to my boyfriend, he kept saying hes coming but never did.
My sister paid for the bills.
We were discharged after a week & Walter still hadn't come. Only reached out saying he's not around I should first go to stay with my sister.
Like that he left me in rhe middle of nowhere.
I went home to my parents, was worried they'll chase me but they took me in.
Took good care of me and the kids.
They're now 13 years, have never met their dad & he has also never asked to see them.
I looked for work, went back to school & am taking good care of my kids too.
I've realized how special and amazing family is. Everyone did all they could to support me get moving again🥰
Nobody judged me.

I got pregnant at nineteen, and my parents reacted like I’d set fire to the family name. My father went silent almost overnight. My mother cried a lot, but most of what she said came down to how embarrassed she felt and how I’d “ruined everything.”
When my boyfriend left partway through the pregnancy, it didn’t soften anything it just gave everyone around me a reason to say I’d brought it on myself.
