On 4 July 1885, nine-year-old Joseph Meister was attacked by a rabid dog in Alsace and bitten fourteen times. In 1885, once rabies took hold, it was considered a death sentence.

No person had ever survived confirmed infection.

His mother, Marie-Angélique, refused to accept that outcome. She treated his wounds as best she could, boarded a train, and traveled the length of France to Paris seeking a scientist she had only heard about in rumors: Louis Pasteur.

Pasteur was 62. He had developed a promising vaccine tested successfully on dogs, but it had never been given to a human. He was not a licensed physician. If the boy died after treatment, Pasteur could face legal consequences and the destruction of his reputation and life’s work.

Two physicians examined Joseph and confirmed that without intervention he had no chance. On the evening of 6 July 1885, the first dose was given. Over the following weeks Joseph received thirteen injections, each prepared from the spinal cord of a rabid rabbit that had been dried for progressively fewer days—each dose slightly stronger than the last.

The goal was to gradually train his immune system to fight the virus before it could reach his brain.

Pasteur barely slept. He monitored every fever, every cough, every quiet hour. Joseph remained well.

After the final injection came the hardest part: waiting. Days turned into weeks with no convulsions, no paralysis, no symptoms.

On 25 August 1885, Joseph Meister left the Pasteur Institute and returned home to Alsace—the first person in history to survive confirmed rabies exposure.

Word spread quickly. Desperate parents from across Europe brought bitten children to Paris seeking the same treatment. The results continued to hold.

The breakthrough also reinforced Pasteur’s broader proof that invisible microorganisms, not miasma or divine punishment, caused disease.

That insight transformed medicine: surgeons began sterilizing instruments, doctors washed their hands, and milk was heated to kill bacteria—a process still called pasteurization.

As an adult, Joseph Meister returned to the Pasteur Institute and worked there as its caretaker for decades, living inside the building where his life had been saved. He was present when Pasteur died in 1895.

Joseph lived to the age of 64. Every year of that life existed because a mother refused to accept a death sentence and a scientist chose to proceed with an untested human treatment on an evening in July.

Christians are not called to coexist with false gods. We are not commanded to tolerate idolatry, affirm pagan worship, or pretend every religion is simply another road to God.

Paul didn’t coexist with idols. He preached against them. The apostles didn’t blend Christianity with paganism. They called people OUT of darkness and INTO the truth.

Jesus Christ is not one option among many.

He is LORD.

There is ONE God. ONE gospel. ONE saving name.

We love our neighbors. We pray for those who believe differently. We treat every person with dignity. But we will NEVER bow to their gods, affirm false worship, or compromise the truth just to make the world comfortable.

“Little children, keep yourselves from idols.” 1 John 5:21

NO idols. NO compromise. JESUS CHRIST ALONE.

THE POPE IS WRONG

The pope is wrong.

I'm not talking about the pissing match between him and Trump, an embarrassment arising from two men with problem egos.

I'm talking about the gospel. He's wrong about that.

On Palm Sunday, presiding at the altar, dressed in his vestments and regalia, standing above the body and blood of Christ, proclaiming as the bishop of Rome the gospel, he said, "Jesus does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war -- but rejects them."

Let that sink in.

"Jesus does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war -- but rejects them."

That is preposterous, and conflicts directly with the Bible, the teachings and history of his own Roman Catholic Church, and the very nature of the Lord Jesus Christ.

In the Bible, there are six separates Psalms written as prayers by David while he was waging war. In these prayers he asked God to bless his efforts and defeat his enemies.

Does the pope want us to believe that the Lord ignored those prayers and rejected David as he offered them? Should those Psalms be removed from the Bible canonized by his own church four times over more than a thousand years?

What about Jehoshaphat, Elisha, Joshua and Hezekiah -- as well as the entire tribes of Reuben, Gad and Manasseh -- who all while waging war prayed fervently to God to deliver them and subdue their enemies?

God ignored them, too, and rejected them?

That's a little hard to swallow given that each one of them was blessed with success in battle and rejoicingly thanked the Lord for it.

That's what the Bible says.

As far as the doctrinally authoritative Catechism of the Catholic Church, the church declares the principle of "just war" -- based on the teachings of saints Augustine and Thomas Aquinas -- and Catholic tradition specifically calls on those waging war to ask for victory in justice and protection for Catholic troops.

And what of the Catholic chaplains in our Armed Forces? Should they tell young men and women waging war in their country's service that their prayers are pointless, as they will be ignored and rejected by their Savior? Isn't that what the Holy Father said?

Finally, there is the matter of Constantine as he prepared for the Battle of the Milvian Bridge. A pagan who was about to wage war, he asked God to bless him with victory. At that point, he saw a cross in the sky and words that told him to march under its banner. That led to his conversion, the embrace of Christianity by the Roman Empire, the Nicaean Creed, and the official governmental sponsorship that made the Catholic Church one of the most powerful and wealthy institutions in the western world.

Is the pope saying that the Lord turned a deaf ear to Constantine? Was that all a mistake or misunderstanding? Should we still be worshipping the sun god?

Of course not.

But this isn't about history or doctrine, soldiers or even the Bible.

It's about Jesus Christ.

"Jesus does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war -- but rejects them."

Nothing could be further from the truth. Jesus listens to everyone's prayers, and Jesus rejects no one.

The Lord loves us all, no matter who we are, no matter what we have done, no matter how far we have fallen. God loves us all, and waits like the adoring Heavenly Father he is for us to reach out to him. He rejoices when we pray, he embraces us when we pray, he pours out his blessings upon us when we pray.

Even if we are waging war.

Even if we are in the depths of sin. Maybe especially if we are in the depths of sin.

"The Lord is near to all who call upon him," David said. And that is true, no matter what Leo said.

God always loves us, God is always there for us, God will always hear our prayers.

It's unfortunate the vicar of Christ seems confused on that point.

I have truly horrific news...

An illegal alien driving a semi-truck has just crashed head-on into a van of Amish men, k*lling 4 of them.

It appears the trucking company that employed the illegal is based out of California and is known as a "chameleon carrier"...

...which are trucking companies that re-register under new names to evade safety violations.

The Amish men who lost their lives to this illegal alien are:

Henry Eicher, 50.

His sons: Menno Eicher, 25, and Paul Eicher, 19.

and Simon Girod, 23.

There will be no protests for them.
Their story won't be in the mainstream news.
