The Cubs are good. It will all depend on pitching. I think it will be interesting this year. There is a winning attitude to this team. Counsell has proved me wrong with his bench decisions and pulling an extended bullpen together to make the Cubs into one of the best teams in the league at the beginning of May. The proof is in the pudding. The sample size is substantial enough to declare: the Cubs are good.
Will injury derail the Cubs? Maybe. It has happened in past seasons. The Cubs were the best baseball team in the world in 2003 and 2004 and have nothing to show for it. In 2003, it was due to the team’s failure to keep composure after the Alou play (He WAS going to catch the ball. Oh, what if!!)
In 2004, it was injuries. When the 2004 staff was whole and healthy, it was ridiculous. Maddux the #5 guy winning 15 + games. Kerry Wood, Mark Prior, Carlos Zambrano, Matt Clement. An offense with Sammy Sosa, Moises Alou, Derek Lee, Aramis Ramerez, Michael Barrett, Nomar Garciaparra. Maybe the best team ever to miss the playoffs. What a shame.
But this year will be different. I’m all in on this team. If the Cubs get healthy and stay healthy, they will win the NL Central and will be in a position to win the National League pennant! The National League is really good this year. The NL Central is really good this year. But I like the 2026 Chicago Cubs. They have the potential to do something special. Go Cubs go!!!

Today we celebrate the feast of Blessed Michael McGivney, humble parish priest and founder of the Knights of Columbus, who was beatified in 2020.
Known for his tireless service to his parishioners and his defense of the faith, he reminds us that holiness is found in the simple, faithful living of our daily vocations.
Please join us in praying for his canonization:
God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Blessed Michael McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue, may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify Blessed Michael McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
