This morning I represented the Mayor of Bolton, as Deputy Mayor, and attended Bolton Lads and Girls Club who were holding their “Community Day”, where hundreds turned out.

There were lots of different activities available for the children and young people and their families to take part in along with market stalls, baking and cookery demonstrations and arts and crafts activities.

Bolton Lads and Girls Club was founded in 1889, making it one of the oldest youth clubs in the UK!

It was originally established to provide a safe and supportive space for boys but has since evolved into a vital resource for young people of all backgrounds across the borough.

Today, the club supports thousands of children and young people aged 8–19 (and up to 25 for those with disabilities), offering everything from sports, arts, and mentoring, to mental health support and employability programmes.

Through its extensive outreach work, the club reaches into communities across Bolton, engaging with those who might not otherwise have access to such opportunities.

Brilliant visit and thank you to everyone involved for the very kind invite.
