In 2021, the U.S. Congress subpoenaed internal documents from the top baby food manufacturers in America. What they found: every single company had internal testing showing dangerous levels of toxic heavy metals in their products — and sold them anyway.

The results — from the companies' own labs:

Up to 91 times the maximum safe level of arsenic.
Up to 177 times the maximum safe level of lead.

A former quality assurance director — 9 years at one of the four companies named in the congressional report:

"Every batch was tested. Every batch showed metals. We had a color-coded internal system — green, yellow, red. Red meant above our own internal threshold. We shipped red-coded batches for three consecutive years. The directive came from above: 'The FDA has no enforceable limit for these metals in baby food. Until they do, we ship.' I raised it twice. Both times I was told the same thing: 'If we pull every batch that tests hot, we lose 40% of production. That is not a business decision we can make.' I left in 2019. Nothing changed. The first solid food most babies eat is rice cereal. Rice absorbs 10 times more arsenic than any other grain. They knew this. They made it the first food recommended to every new parent in America.

The FDA was informed. They created a program called "Closer to Zero." It is 2026. The limits are still not enforced. Not a single product was recalled by the FDA. Beech-Nut recalled ONE lot — only after Congress published the report publicly.
