We HAVE seen this back and forth before on different parts of the planet.. these are called "antipode earthquakes".

They only occur when serious seismic unrest is taking place due to multiple deep earthquakes across a vast area of the planet. The deep earthquakes are usually followed by shallower larger earthquakes up towards the surface, spanning out thousands of miles while doing so.

This happened several times in the past, a few random examples I can grab from my youtube channel for instance from 2016, 2018, and 2021 , plus today.

Usually happens within 3 days or less, a new large earthquake of similar (or greater) size strikes the antipode of the previous large quake on the opposite side of the plate (or planet in some cases).

Thus, the Venezuela earthquakes are themselves an antipode earthquake of the massive quake from the opposite side of the world two weeks back.

The Earth just experienced FOUR significant earthquakes in a single day.

First, it was a Magnitude 5.6 in California’s Redwood Valley.

Then, 7 hours later, a devastating “double” quake inflicted massive destruction in northern Venezuela. The first one at Magnitude 7.2, followed by an even larger Magnitude 7.5 only 39 SECONDS later.

Finally, a mere 25 minutes after the Venezuela twins, a Magnitude 6.9 marine earthquake struck offshore of Kuji, Japan.

Very rare to see this much seismic activity across the globe in such a short period of time.

Venezuela just experienced something that statistically should not happen: two of the four largest earthquakes in its recorded history, 39 seconds apart.

In over a century of records, the biggest quake the country ever logged was a 7.7 in 1900. Wednesday's 7.5 now ranks second all-time. The 7.2 that struck 39 seconds before it ranks around fourth. Same fault, same minute.

That gap is what turned it catastrophic. A building doesn't reset between shocks. The first cracks the structure, shifts load paths, loosens connections. The second lands on a frame that's already compromised. A structure that rides out a single 7.5 can come down under a 7.2 followed by a 7.5. The damage compounds in a way neither quake does alone.
