I get what he’s saying but the Rams were a few plays away from getting and probably winning the Super Bowl, so that little bit extra that they get from Garrett is very valuable.
The Niners were not close to getting to the Super Bowl, so even if Evans goes for 1,200 yards and 10 tds SF will still need a lot more from other players to get to the Super Bowl.
David is trying to get engagement, and it’s ok. All content creators do it. I like Grant and he’s one of the worst 😅
@Coach_Yac@ClutchPoints Yes. He’s closing in on 100 TDs and 13,000 rushing+receiving yards and has 626 receptions. That averages to about 1,400 total yards, 70 receptions, and 11 TDs a season over 9 years. And he has 2 passing TDs 😅 He’s a HOFer.
@Coach_Yac The only way John and Kyle would get fired is if the 49ers miss the playoffs something like 3 out of 4 seasons and don’t go to a Super Bowl. It also depends on what other coaches are available. That said, it would take a lot.
Rogan has become delusional. All the success and unchecked power has turned him into an egomaniac. He presents as a good dude, but if you can see through his bs you’ll see a person who thinks they are are the most important person in almost every room. He wants so badly to be important in every area of interest to him—UFC, stand up comedy, medical science, etc. This is my opinion. I could be wrong, but that’s the feeling I have when I compare him now to who he seemed to be 5 years ago.
@grantcohn Growth into Latin America is the smartest move for the NFL. Over 600 million people live in Mexico, Central, and South America combined and the time zones are the same or very close to the U.S. time zones. There’s a lot of money to be made south of the border.
I’m not getting my hopes up about any of these rookies. I’m old enough to remember when Jordan Mason trained on the jugs machine all offseason and people were so excited that he was finally going to be a pass-catching threat, yet nothing materialized. It’s the offseason. Hopefully everyone stays healthy and gets better.
You might be correct about Dak and the 2019 Niners. I think Dak is a lot better than Jimmy G but he’s not better than Brock. Physically Dak has the edge but mentally Brock has the edge. Brock is still improving too. Dak has had talented teams that have done very little. Brock has had more success overall and he’s only played a few seasons. If you believe Dak is better than Brock I need to see some evidence, especially since you said they are not even close.
I don’t know why you should care. I care because it could affect the integrity of the game. Insiders are tasked with the responsibility to break news 24/7, so the possibility of withholding information to the benefit of a person or an organization that could affect transactions, cause public scrutiny, or help an entity avoid scrutiny when it is warranted is concerning to me. And these are just a few possibilities that come to mind.
I’m not oblivious to the realities of the world. People will do what’s most beneficial for them most of the time. It is difficult to separate such a personal relationship and work responsibilities. That’s why doctors shouldn’t operate on their own family and it’s why nepotism is frowned upon in large, highly public organizations. At the end of the day you need to decide what is important to you in order to answer that question.
Cousins would get eaten alive behind this oline and Purdy can move around and improvise. There’s no way Kirk would make it through a season with SF. Purdy can move around and has only done it once in 4 seasons. If SF doesn’t win a Super Bowl under Kyle and John it will be due to their failure to prioritize the offensive line. Cousins is above average but Purdy is elite (when healthy). Let’s hope Purdy can stay healthy.
Exactly, that’s why the first sentence I wrote says that someone in front of him will need to be out for him to get playtime and targets. I don’t think that he lacks the talent, only that it’s doubtful he’ll even get enough looks to get to 500 yards. I didn’t even mention that he needs to beat out Christian Kirk.
Maybe Kittle misses the first half of the season but I doubt Stribling gets many of those targets. I don’t want anyone to get injured but I don’t see a scenario where Stribling would get the opportunities necessary to reach that benchmark. Historically, he’d need to ascend to WR2 to achieve that production, which means Pearsall of Evans would move down in the pecking order somehow.
The issue will be that the 49ers rarely run 4 WR formations. Who will get the playing time at WR? Evans (X) and Pearsall (Z) are locks. The battle for WR3 (F/slot) will be between Kirk and Stribling. Even then, the Niners run a lot of 21 personnel (2RB/1TE) with CMC, Juice, and Kittle/Tonges/Farrell.
Stribling has primarily been an outside receiver, although he does have limited experience in the slot. Maybe Shanahan wants to transition more towards 10 personnel (1RB/4WR), but I doubt it. He loves having a TE on the field.
The way I see it, Stribling is going to have to beat out Kirk for some early playing time.
Even then, Stribling’s skill set is that of a boundary WR (tall, big, fast, and a good blocker). I’m sure Kyle can figure out how to use him in the slot, but it’s not his natural position.
It’s hard to see Stribling getting playing time over Pearsall or Evans. Maybe the idea is to play him primarily in the slot this season and take over for Evans next season. Or maybe Shanahan plans on running more trips/bunch formations. If Kyle wants to run 11 personnel (1RB/1TE/3WR) with 3 bunched receivers on one side, you could have Evans, Pearsall, and Stribling all in their most effective positions, and Kittle/Tonges/Farrell on the other side with CMC out of the backfield. That could be dangerous.
There’s a lot to be decided, for sure. But David, Kyle is going to need to make some changes to his offense to fully reap the rewards of having Stribling on the field. If not, it’s going to be tough for Stribling to contribute much in a statistical sense his rookie season.

I don’t criticize the front office just to criticize. These are the facts. If there is something I am missing I would like to hear it, but I have yet to hear a good argument that counters my point. SF is falling behind. Hopefully the 2025 and 2026 draft move things forward. If not, a Super Bowl win under this regime is unlikely.
David, I’m not sure what you’re trying to say by your 1+1 comment, but there is more than one way to achieve a desired result. For example 1+1 equals 2 but 1.5+0.5 also equals 2. Just because the 49ers have won some games it doesn’t mean that they been effective at drafting recently.
Yes, the Niners front office has done a far better job trading for players than drafting them recently, and that coupled with great coaching has sustained their success along with the great players the regime drafted early in their tenure.
Lynch and Shanahan have also given out some bad contracts, Hargrave and BA for example.
Their drafting needs to improve because their “pillars” are aging out and they have no inexpensive options to replace their production.
