Bloxham Research Group (BRG): investigating the crackle of exceptional circumstances since 2015. Overdue ferrous findings of the troubling "triangulation of spires" of Bloxham, Adderbury and King's Sutton churches are expected imminently.
In its British incarnation, the chalk outline of a hauntological canon can be traced by tuning in to the #spectralfrequencies building and breaking around the cultural margins in asynchronous sets of intertextual waves…
The limited cassette run of Bloxham Research Group on Sensory Leakage is now sold out. Digital: endless. Thanks for your interest and support. https://t.co/SjYm6uJ6QR
A #privatepress lathe cut was commissioned for personal use. This disc received public play at the aforementioned GRC event as well as at 38b Projects, Peckham Rye, as part of Art Licks in 2016… or was it 2017?… "Time is an illusion. Lunchtime, doubly so." #theredlion
Selected recordings were reassambled by affiliated BRG member @simongmusic73 for a work-in-progress playback at Glossop Record Club, Derbyshire. A yet-unrealised research project concerns the tolling bells of nearby St Michael's & All Angels church, Mottram-in-Longendale: THEE.
We recorded the occulture of the zone: church bells detonating the silence, fleeting bursts of birdsong, footsteps on gravel paths, static crackle, tape hiss, traffic hum, spliced with the echoes and whispers of voices from the parish compiling a hauntological canon. #Hauntology
The zone was being rebranded as ‘Central M40’ by companies such as #TritaxSymmetry (whose names were brief forms of counter-pastoral poetry). Field after field growing vast logistics warehouse assets along the motorway corridor South-East of Banbury. #BigBoxes#Passagenwerk
Troubling misalignments: adding the magnificent spire of Middleton Cheney to the coordinates expanded the zone of fields and farmland bisected by road, rail, river, and canal networks. #OnlyFourHoursDriveFrom75PerCentOfTheUK
Was it inevitable that Iain Sinclair’s delirious mapping of the ‘lines of influence’ between Hawksmoor’s London churches would become lines of influence grafted on the rural landscape of 21st century capitalist modernity? #ForgingAFranchise
Hamlet offered Derrida a hauntological port of entry for reading Marx. We had misread Shakespeare’s text literally, locating the porches where the poison soon to be poured by Leadsom and co had already begun to drip into the surrounding landscape. #LeperousDistilment
Many villages through which we moved were located in the Tory safe seat of South Northants whose MP is Andrea Leadsom. Relatively unknown when we began the project, Leadsom twice became a loathsome and ludicrous candidate for the Conservative leadership. #AsIfThereAreAnyOther.
Primary research recordings were made on intentionally unsophisticated equipment. All cassettes were sourced from local charity shops. The forgotten are now layered, hissing below the surface; from beyond. Unclear voices of the not-so-blank generation. #Realistic
Leave Jarman’s intimate and exquisitely written journals on the kitchen table to go on my daily 5 o’clock lockdown walk in a nearby wood. When I return a bumble bee follows me through the garden and enters the kitchen. Time travelling through a different virus.
‘For ten minutes I follow a large bumble bee along the track that divides the wood behind the house as it hums from flower to flower’. Easter Monday 1990, Derek Jarman, Modern Nature.
