What if it's not that tortured people make great art, but that we've created a society in which artists have to be willing to be tortured to be successful?
What if there's no relationship between pain and creativity, and we've just made it painful to live a life dedicated to art
Can someone explain to me why the internet is angry at SE Hinton for not wanting to write a graphic novel of something she published a half century ago?
If you want to start letting go of whatever is holding you back, learn to be comfortable with these 3 statements.
1. I’m sorry.
2. I need help.
3. I love you.
Whatever way they cause you difficulty is the problem that’s holding you back.
@snarke We have to make it okay for people to change teams when they realize the error in their perception. If it was going to be a clean process, he wouldn’t have worked for Trump to begin with.
@RHicks He certainly seems like the most obviously closed off and angry of the bunch. Only hears and shares the ideas that make him look powerful or, somewhat paradoxically, validate his feelings of being persecuted by people more powerful than himself.
It’s not even an obscure event (one of the most popular HBO shows of the year was plotted entirely around its memory.) I don’t know (or really care) if 45 knows, but someone in that decision chain is trying to raise an ugly flag.
So. Let's set the stage...
President Trump has chosen as the venue for his first rally in months, Tulsa, Oklahoma, site of a horrific massacre of African Americans. And he has set the date for June 19th, Juneteenth, a celebration of the end of slavery in the United States.
@Alphastream I feel like it has something to do with a generation of systems that started to take some of their cues from competitive video games instead of storytellers. I die a little reading the long threads about which ‘builds’ are ‘viable’ based on max DPR.
@TheTalena It may feel like you don’t know where you’re going, or if you’re going anywhere, but I get the feeling that you’re doing it right, and it very much looks like you’re getting where you need to go, today.
A caterpillar doesn’t know how to become
It learns and collects
It creates and protects and survives
When it remembers how to be nothing,
then it will become what it was meant to be
And now we are going to see what happens during a pandemic when a majority of your population has a severe inventive to hide their symptoms in order to avoid medical bills or missing work and losing pay. You want a better argument for medicare-for-all and worker protections?
Watchmen is the best thing that HBO has made all year. It was a perfect extension and subversion of the original. I hope they don't make any more of it.
I really think we need to remove the phrase "thank you for this opportunity" from the corporate lexicon. If you are getting a job, you're bringing just as much value to the table as the company, and thanking someone for letting you do their work sets all the wrong precedents.
