Today, I was on the redline train and I suddenly saw a woman reading my book, Some Kind of Girl. I decided to talk to her.
Me: Excuse me. How is that book? Any good?
Her: Yes, it’s for my class. It’s good.
*she looks at the cover, looks at me*
Her: Oh my God! It’s you!
Me: Yes. It’s me. 🥹
You should have seen how she lit up. My day is made. 🥹😭🙏🏾
Stop being ignorant about white privilege. It does NOT mean you're racist. It does NOT mean your life has been easy. It does NOT mean you don't face struggles too. It means your life isn't made harder by your skin color. THAT'S IT. HAVE SOME EMPATHY. DON'T MAKE IT ABOUT YOU.
Emmett Till should be 82 today.
His mother, Mamie Till-Mobley,
ensured that the world saw how gruesomely her 14 year-old child was murdered.
Racism isn’t disagreement.
Families grieve. Communities mourn.
Dreams wither. Humanity suffers.
People perish.
Remember Emmett Till.
Henrietta Lacks’ family has largely been overlooked in the 70+ years since she unknowingly changed the world of medicine. We must uplift Ms. Lacks and her family’s legacy. Support the posthumous nomination of Henrietta Lacks for the Congressional Gold Medal!
