It's wonderful to see aspiring innovators and technologists using AI to address agricultural challenges at #RebootTheEarth in Qatar.
Congratulations to all participating teams for doing great work to advance the SDGs. Looking forward to continuing this momentum in Brazil!
110 participants. 22 teams. 4 days of innovation.
From 23–26 Sept, #RebootTheEarth at @CarnegieMellonQ brought young innovators together to develop AI solutions for agriculture, from crop suitability to reducing food loss.
Congrats to the co-champions & all 22 teams!🌱
I'm pleased to highlight the work of Yujun Pian, Chief of the Information and Management Section at @UN_OICT, and her team in helping @UN colleagues harness #AI responsibly and effectively.
How can we make #AI easier and safer for @UN colleagues to use?
Meet Yujun Pian, Chief of Section, Information Management @UN_OICT, whose team is helping colleagues navigate #AI through practical guidance, safeguards and a shared space to learn from one another.

Human oversight must remain central as #AI continues to reshape how we work.
In my latest Medium post, I reflect on AI’s potential to accelerate sustainable development, the importance of responsible governance and why tech must always serve humanity.

QR codes are everywhere, including in our digital workplaces.
Before you scan, pause and consider where that code could take you. A malicious QR code can lead to a fraudulent website designed to steal information.
#CybersecurityAwarenessMonth
The UN is the one place where all nations – large and small – can come together to shape a vision for our common future.
Throughout last week’s #UNGA, leaders from every corner of the globe delivered their message to the world from the General Assembly Hall.
Proud of our OICT colleagues who worked tirelessly behind the scenes throughout #UNGA81.
Thank you to the BCSS team and all our technology teams for helping ensure the United Nations could be seen and heard around the world. 🇺🇳
As #UNGA81 comes to a close, we’re recognizing the OICT team making it possible behind the scenes.
From testing teleprompters, microphones & cameras to supporting broadcasts + conference technology, BCSS helps ensure the world can see and hear the UN in action.
Thank you, BCSS!
This #CybersecurityAwarenessMonth, I encourage everyone across the UN system to pause👋, verify🔍 and protect🔐.
A few seconds of caution can make a real difference in protecting our people, our data and the work of the United Nations.
“Cybersecurity is a shared responsibility. Every action we take contributes to a safer and more resilient UN.”
This #CybersecurityMonth, CITO @BMarianoJr has a message for us all: "Pause. Verify. Protect."
Let's strengthen our collective defense together.https://t.co/qOmeAuFbx8
I attended the XXXVII High-Level Meeting of the @NizamiGanjaviIC, where I spoke about the importance of shared global governance and regulations for #AI.
As the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned, the danger is not technology. It is technology without accountability. https://t.co/iOtWOJl0XH
“Power is shifting from states to private corporations, and from human decision-makers to automated systems.”
At the XXXVII High-Level Meeting of the @NizamiGanjaviIC, ASG & CITO @BMarianoJr joined global leaders for “AI, Digital Sovereignty and the Future of Global Governance.”
The #UNGA81 Artificial and International Security Council meeting stressed that for human rights to keep up with AI, we need agile governance at the speed of the code we are trying to control.
We must work together to create global AI governance and regulations across sectors.

At UN Headquarters, several top AI executives are briefing the Security Council amid growing concerns about security risks.
“Because AI affects us all, global coordination is indispensable,” @antonioguterres has stressed.

A timely discussion as we begin #UNGA81 High-Level Week. Interoperability cannot be an afterthought in AI governance. We need shared standards that protect people and preserve trust.
Thanks to @ODET_UN & my fellow panelists for this essential conversation! #DigitalCooperationDay
“The real question is how we get to interoperability that protects humanity.”
To kick off #UNGA81, @BMarianoJr, CITO & ASG, joined the "Interoperability by Design” Panel to discuss #AI governance interoperability. Thanks to @ODET_UN for organizing #DigitalCooperationDay!
The @UN has a responsibility to lead by example.
That means building our own #AI capacity, learning how these tools work, experimenting responsibly and demonstrating where AI can create real value for humanity.
“We may be the last generation able to set the terms on which humanity and machines coexist.”
As Artificial Intelligence advances at an extraordinary pace, @antonioguterres has repeatedly stressed it must serve humanity and not the other way around.

Looking forward to joining @ODET_UN#DigitalCooperationDay on 21 September during #UNGA81 High-Level Week to discuss what it takes to make AI governance work in practice.
As AI systems become more interconnected & intertwined with everyday, we need governance that is principled.
Education is a fundamental human right. But exercising that right is becoming increasingly dangerous.
In the past two years, more than 8,500 attacks targeted schools, students & teachers.
All countries must ensure the right to education for every child & protect schools & places of learning.
Responsible #AI governance starts within our own institutions.
@UN_OICT is proud to work with @CanadaUN to strengthen AI impact assessments and advance robust standards for identifying, measuring and managing AI risks in the @UN . #AIsafety#AIrisks#ResponsibleAI
Canada is proud to support @UN_OICT and the UN in advancing safe and responsible AI for the multilateral system. Through capacity building, this partnership helps advance the objectives of the Global Digital Compact. #AI#GlobalDigitalCompact
Honored to have opened #UNGGIM16. Around the world, geospatial information is helping governments make smarter decisions.
Our next mission: connect these efforts globally and make geospatial information a trusted foundation of public digital infrastructure. #GlobalDigitalCompact
“Every service a government delivers happens somewhere.”
At #UNGGIM16, UN CITO @BMarianoJr underscored that geospatial information is a public good, essential for digital government, disaster response, sustainable development and implementing the #GlobalDigitalCompact.
It was an honor to open #OSPOsForGood in June 22nd at #UNOpenSourceWeek, where leaders from governments, industry & academia united to explore how open source is strengthening digital sovereignty & advancing global collaboration
Congrats to everyone who made the week a success!
Partnerships are being redefined in our increasingly connected world.
In my recent Medium post, I wrote about how digital transformation is creating new opportunities to collaborate across borders and communities to drive greater impact.

Great conversation on the coordination and policies of the use of #AI and emerging technologies with Kristin De Peyron (@KPeyron), Director-General for Resource Management at European External Action Service @eu_eeas!
The UN80 reform initiative reflects the @UN’s full commitment to improve efficiency, transparency & impact.
We do so with our eyes fixed on the people we serve, ensuring we can deliver the results they need with agility, coherence & value for money.
