🚨 NEWS UPDATE | BMB EMPOWER NETWORK
Court hearings are scheduled for next month as Karmelo Anthony seeks a new trial, about six weeks after he was convicted of murder and sentenced to 35 years in prison for the fatal stabbing of Austin Metcalf during a Frisco, Texas, high school track meet in April 2025.
Anthonys new defense team is asking the court to:
⚖️ Grant a new trial
⚖️ Recuse the trial judge
⚖️ Consider claims that his constitutional rights were violated during the trial, including allegations involving his right to testify, evidence handling, and courtroom access.
Prosecutors strongly dispute those claims, maintaining the trial was fair and ethical and expressing confidence in the jury’s unanimous guilty verdict and 35-year sentence.
Important: A hearing does not mean a new trial has been granted. It is the legal process for the court to review the defense’s arguments before deciding whether any relief is warranted.
Stay with BMB Empower Network for updates as the court proceedings continue.

Ben Crump and Rev. Al Sharpton must be striking nerves
Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves has accused civil rights attorney Ben Crump and Rev. Al Sharpton of fueling tensions surrounding the Nolan Wells case, alleging they contributed to an atmosphere that led to reported threats.
His comments come as federal authorities investigate threats tied to the case. At the same time, Crump and Sharpton continue to call for transparency and a thorough investigation into Nolan Wells’ death.
Here’s where the case stands:
• The FBI is investigating reported threats connected to the case.
• An independent autopsy has not determined a cause or manner of death.
• The investigation remains ongoing, and the case is expected to be presented to a grand jury.
• No criminal charges related to Nolan Wells’ death have been announced.
As the investigation continues, many are calling for patience, accountability, and a complete review of the evidence before conclusions are reached.

So is this states rights? Under #GretchenWhitmer, #Michigan has expanded tuition-free community college programs in two major ways:
Recent high school graduates can attend their local community college tuition-free through the Community College Guarantee (part of the Michigan Achievement Scholarship program). Beginning with the Class of 2023 and beyond, eligible students can have in-district tuition, fees, and contact hours covered if they complete the #FAFSA and enroll within 15 months of graduation.
Adults age 25 and older without a #college degree can attend community college tuition-free through the Michigan Reconnect program.
You can redraw districts, but you cannot erase the power of the people.
This week, I spoke with @Justinjpearson about our continued fight for voting rights — even in the face of efforts to silence and divide us.
#Republicans fighting with children: Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC) is under scrutiny for her response to a 10-year-old student.
Thank you @CourierNewsroom for reporting this story
Back in August 2025 @rolandsmartin said this about Political and economic power in Black America being on the line. The Congressional Black Caucus faces an existential threat as the Supreme Court eyes rulings that could erase over 30 Black-held seats. Political and economic power in Black America is on the line. Well what did the Supreme Court do last week?

Biden DOJ vs Trump DOJ
Big picture difference (in plain English)
#Biden DOJ: Focused on expanding enforcement of civil rights laws, including systemic racism (policing, housing, voting, education).
#Trump DOJ: Has redefined or scaled back civil rights enforcement, focusing more on “colorblind” law, anti-#DEI efforts, and different priorities (like voter fraud, anti-DEI, etc.).
That difference—systemic racism vs. “equal treatment without race-conscious policy”—is the core divide.
⸻
1. Enforcement priorities
Biden DOJ Civil Rights Division
Emphasized systemic discrimination (not just intentional racism)
Used tools like:
Police reform investigations (pattern-or-practice cases)
Voting Rights Act enforcement
Fair housing enforcement
Filed lawsuits against police departments (e.g., Minneapolis, Louisville)
Supported policies addressing racial disparities in:
Criminal justice
Education
Housing
👉 This approach assumes racial disparities can come from systems, not just explicit racism
⸻
Trump DOJ Civil Rights Division
Shifted focus away from traditional civil rights enforcement
Reduced emphasis on:
Voting rights enforcement
Police misconduct investigations
Pivoted toward:
Voter fraud investigations (rare in practice)
Claims of discrimination against white people or conservatives
Dropped or dismissed Biden-era police reform cases
👉 This approach assumes civil rights law should target only intentional discrimination
⸻
2. Approach to racism in law
Biden DOJ
Supported “disparate impact” doctrine
→ Policies can be illegal if they disproportionately harm Black people—even without intent
Trump DOJ
Eliminated “disparate impact” enforcement in federal rules
Requires proof of intentional discrimination only
👉 Real-world impact:
Harder to challenge:
Redlining-like housing outcomes
Discriminatory lending patterns
Policies that disproportionately affect Black communities
⸻
3. Police accountability
Biden DOJ
Expanded investigations into police departments
Used consent decrees (federal oversight of police)
Trump DOJ
Withdrew from or ended many consent decrees
Dropped major police reform cases
👉 Impact:
Less federal oversight of police departments accused of civil rights violations
⸻
4. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)
Biden DOJ
Promoted DEI across federal government (Executive Order 13985)
Saw DEI as a tool to address racial inequality
Trump DOJ
Issued orders to eliminate DEI programs across government
Investigated or discouraged DEI efforts in schools, workplaces, and contracts
Framed DEI as discriminatory
👉 Impact:
Reduction in federal programs specifically aimed at helping marginalized groups, including Black Americans
⸻
5. Voting rights
Biden DOJ
Increased enforcement of voting protections
Challenged restrictive voting laws in court
Trump DOJ
Shifted focus to voter fraud investigations instead
Policies proposed stricter voter ID/proof requirements
👉 Impact:
Critics argue this could disproportionately affect Black voters (historically impacted by ID/access barriers)
⸻
6. Structure and staffing of the Civil Rights Division
Biden DOJ
Maintained or expanded staff for enforcement
Trump DOJ
Major staff departures (over half or more in some reports)
Shifted mission toward administration priorities
Reduced capacity in:
Voting rights
education discrimination
federal compliance enforcement
👉 Impact:
Less enforcement overall in traditional civil rights areas
⸻
7. Housing, education, and economic equity
Biden DOJ
Focus on:
Fair housing enforcement
School discrimination
Environmental justice
Trump DOJ
Rolled back housing anti-discrimination tools and requirements
Threatened funding cuts to schools using DEI programs

As of April 2026, the current budget #surplus for the state of #Maryland is $250 million.
#Governor#WesMoore signed the $71 billion Fiscal Year 2027 budget on April 8, 2026, which achieves this surplus by closing a projected $1.4 billion to $1.5 billion shortfall through spending cuts and fund transfers.
SHOUT OUT TO THE GOVERNOR OF MARYLAND
Let’s see if the #rightwing @baltimoresun will report on this!!
We got your back Mr. Governor @iamwesmoore

Well Well Well, we been trying to figure out who’s paying y’all and this lady just #exposed it and thank you!!!
"Watch and pray" is a biblical command from (Matthew 26:41) instructing believers to remain spiritually alert and vigilant against temptation and evil, paired with prayer for divine strength to overcome weakness. It means monitoring one's heart and surroundings for danger while relying on #God for #power, often associated with waiting for Christ’s return or avoiding falling into temptation due to spiritual or physical fatigue.
🤨 This is some BS, #NewEdition won the fan vote with 1,022,683 votes and was still omitted from induction this year.
How many groups start a group split where each member goes solo and hits #1, then reunites as a group and also scores a #1?
Despite winning the 2026 fan #vote, New Edition was not inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame because the final selection is determined by a small committee of industry experts, not just public popularity.
