A discretionary trust with his assets in an and living 7 years after set up has the same result

It may have been an advantage of the purchase but I’m not sure that was his reasons - trust is a lot easier

He just needs to set up a trust and live 7 years after set up - same result without potential loss of value of land and the hassle and energy of that was his only reason

They have made priority decisions about their income and expenditure

That’s how it works
My tax paid for the pensions of the day
Someone else’s tax will pay my pension in time

If they are rich they don’t receive benefits

And they own a home because they worked for it in a day where benefits didn’t exist
