New paper out in Frontiers in Environmental Science 🌱
Fishers’ local knowledge can strengthen seagrass restoration planning.
Restoration is often guided by habitat suitability models, but success depends on more than biophysical conditions alone.
Local knowledge is not a soft add-on to scientific modelling. It can act as a social-ecological diagnostic layer, helping us understand opportunity, constraint and potential conflict before restoration decisions are made.
New Global map reveals seagrass meadows under threat — even inside protected areas! 🌍
With help from over 1000 citizen scientists, we mapped human pressures to seagrass at more than 1200 sites in 86 countries.

#Seaweed farming has many potential benefits, but scaling these farms cannot be at the expense of other habitats (e.g. #seagrass) that support people! In our short letter, we discuss why caution is needed!

I am the “The largest gathering of seagrass ecologist on the planet” in Napels: 486 attendees from 48 countries. What a conference venue and what a growth of community a 400% increase from my first seagrass workshop in 2010. @ISBW15_WSC24 quote: @BoardshortsBen
Stoked to be opening the largest ever gathering of seagrass people on the planet. Thank you . So grateful to be President of this incredible and growing community 💚🌱
