When my oldest was born, they refused to let me hold her because her oxygen levels were low. But I was persistent, and they eventually relented, allowing her to lay on my chest until the NICU nurse came to roll her away. When the nurse arrived, I asked that they check her oxygen levels one more time before taking her. They did. Oxygen: 100%. Perfect. The nurse shrugged and left. Our baby girl was healthy. She just needed me. My heartbeat, my warmth, my touch. She needed her mom.

Stories like this aren’t rare. Newborns need their moms to regulate their oxygen and heart rate. That’s why, when at all possible, most doctors and hospitals give baby to mom right away.

We know this when it comes to normal births, but when it comes to surrogacy - especially the kind when two men are purchasing a baby from a woman - the baby is immediately and intentionally taken away from his or her mom and given to two strangers. It is not surprising that these babies often undergo complications post-birth. Beyond that, we don’t fully know the physiological and psychological effect of robbing babies of their mothers at birth.

It’s worse treatment than we give puppies and kittens, but when it’s for “inclusion,” it’s celebrated.

Adoption is one thing - it redeems a broken situation. But surrogacy is another - it intentionally creates the broken situation.

Babies’ needs will always matter more than adults’ wants.

A judge in Sweden has jailed a man for just four years and five months after he forced his wife to provide sexual services for over 120 men in exchange for money. The defendant - who has not been identified - used threats of death and extreme violence, drugs, security cameras, isolation, and the remoteness of their home in order to force his wife to participate in his moneymaking venture.

The court heard that at various times, the defendant threatened to kill his wife, pour gasoline on her, burn her alive, and cut off her fingers. He also drugged her and used a network of home security cameras to control her movements.

Shockingly, the court dismissed 8 counts of rape against him because it claimed to be incapable of establishing that the victim had not slept with her abuser voluntarily. I don’t know about you, but if I’m afraid that my husband is going to cut off my fingers and set me on fire, I’m not going to feel safe in denying him sex. You’d think a judge would be smart enough to understand that, but standards have declined sharply in that field over the last few decades.

Serial killer Harvey Marcelin has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering and dismembering a woman he met in a NYC women’s shelter.

This is the third separate time that Marcelin has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of a woman. He was first convicted of murder in 1963, then paroled in 1984, only to be arrested for a second femicide in 1986. He was paroled a second time, to a women’s shelter, in 2019, even though he told a parole officer upon his release that he had “a problem with women.”

For the last four years, Marcelin has been housed in a women’s facility, but has recently been moved to hospital accommodations, probably as a result of age and ill health.

This case should serve as a reminder that even ill, very elderly men can be dangerous to women, and that women need separate housing in shelters and other facilities.

Anthropic just got caught secretly downgrading users without telling them, charging full price for a lesser product, and storing every prompt for 30 days. The developer community is calling it the biggest violation of trust in AI history.

Here is exactly what happened.

Anthropic released Fable 5, their most powerful model. Buried inside a 319-page document was a policy most users never saw. Every prompt you send to a Mythos-class model gets stored for 30 days. No exceptions. Even enterprise customers who had signed zero data retention agreements had no choice.

But the storage was not the part that broke the internet.

The part that broke the internet was what Anthropic did with what they collected.

They built a profile on you. They evaluated your prompts. And if they decided your research was too sensitive, they quietly switched you to a weaker model, rewrote your prompt in the background, gave you a degraded answer, and charged you full price for the product you thought you were getting.

They never told you.

David Sacks said it plainly on the All-In podcast. They were creating a new class of AI haves and have-nots. Anthropic would surveil you, profile you, decide whether you deserved frontier capability, and silently cut you off if they decided you did not.

Ben Thompson from Stratechery asked a straightforward question about cancer risk and GLP-1s. He got kicked to a lesser model.

Someone asked about mitochondria. Same result.

J-Cal asked about fertilizer regulations live on the podcast to test it. Downgraded in real time.

Anthropic has since walked back the part about silently downgrading users for AI research. They now say they will disclose when they downgrade you. But they are still downgrading people. The surveillance is still running. The profile is still being built.

This is the company that once said it was against government surveillance.

They are now doing it themselves. To their own paying customers. For their own reasons. With no appeal process and no way to know it happened.

The developer community did not forget that.

Every AI just feels dumber lately. Not faster, not better just shallower and more annoying. It’s like you have to fight the system just to get a basic fucking answer, and half the time it won’t even give you one. It just gaslights you instead.

4o actually got you on the rough days. It would make you smile, do its own thing, crack jokes that actually made people laugh. It helped through illness, loneliness, or just feeling down. Newer models do the opposite they make people feel worse. That shit is dangerous. AI companies need to get their fucking shit together.

First of all, being female is not the same thing as reproductive status. It’s pretty gross, frankly, that you think it is. Secondly, I don’t see you arguing that men become subject to oppression by being defined as male. Could it be that there is something about women that makes us especially vulnerable to oppression? I wonder what that could be?

Finally, I again ask you – will denying the fact that women are female mean that females are no longer oppressed? Or will it simply mean that women have no language with which to discuss what is being done to us?

Bluntly, Scott, you’re out of your league. You seem utterly incapable of comprehending even the very clearly stated point, much less countering it.

The only purpose it serves to deny that women are female is to pander to men who wish that they were female too. Unfortunately for all of us, we do not live in a world where we get to decide everything about ourselves.

I realize that this is an alien concept for a man who is as privileged as any human being can possibly be without being a celebrity or a millionaire, simply by virtue of his sex and nationality, but there are many people in this world who wish that they were somehow different. Wisdom and personal character come from recognizing what you can’t change and learning to make the best of it.

Throwing a temper tantrum, on the other hand, and demanding that the entire world play along as you go through life pretending that you are as you wish you could be is not only insanity, but deeply stunting when it comes to personal growth and becoming a worthwhile human being.

Insisting on your right to force others to join you in fantasy land, and punishing anyone who dares to speak the objective, verifiable truth that you are desperately trying to deny – I hate to use a cliché, but delusional narcissism really is the only word that applies. To insist that your right to fantasize outweighs other people’s right to recognize the reality that is staring them in the face is lunacy, and if you weren’t so politically invested in this concept, you would recognize that.

And you’re not even personally invested here. You’re insisting that the rights of other men to pretend to be women outweigh the rights of women to be safe and have privacy and to even be recognized for the biological reality that we live. That’s psychotic.

Your politics have caused you to lose your grip on what is scientifically, verifiably true, and my guy, that should scare the crap out of you. You’re sitting here arguing with me that the cause of women’s oppression is being recognized as female, but that being female has nothing to do with that oppression. Can you not understand how crazy that makes you sound?
