🇺🇸 THE US IS TRYING TO BUY ITS WAY OUT OF A $40 TRILLION PROBLEM.

Starting September 9, the Treasury will double the size of its long term bond buybacks, from a maximum of $2 billion to at least $4 billion per operation.

This comes as America’s long term borrowing costs surge to levels not seen since 2007.

Meanwhile, US national debt crossed $40 trillion, while annual interest costs are expected to hit roughly $1 trillion soon.

For comparison: that’s more than the entire US defense budget.

The US Treasury says its buybacks are designed to improve liquidity in the bond market, not artificially push yields lower.

But against $40 trillion of debt, this is like throwing rocks into the Grand Canyon.

Buybacks can support the bond market.

They can’t fix America’s debt problem.
