Oceana’s landmark DNA study tested over 1,200 seafood samples from 674 stores and restaurants across 21 states and found 59% of tuna samples were mislabeled.

The worst offender was “white tuna” — 84% of those samples were actually escolar (snake mackerel), a fish that can cause severe oily diarrhea and digestive issues.

Only 7 of 120 “red snapper” samples were real.
