There’s a scene from the 1960 film version of The Time Machine that has been haunting my dreams of late.

In the film, the Time Traveller (Rod Taylor) has traveled almost a million years into the future, expecting that when he arrived he would find an advanced civilisation marked by the pursuit of learning. Instead, he finds the Eloi, a race of simple creatures in togas who are bred like cattle, and eaten, by the subterranean Morlocks.

In the film’s most harrowing scene, he’s taken by one of the Eloi to a centuries-old library housing the last books in existence, which crumble to dust in his hands.

“What have you done?” the Time Traveller demands, as the dreams of centuries turn to ash. “Thousands of years of building and rebuilding, creating and recreating! A million years, the sensitive men dying for their dreams, for what? So you can swim, and dance, and play.”

In the last couple weeks I see a lot of men on this platform arguing with a straight face that we should let AI generate our writing for us, that it’s the future, that there’s no fighting it. And I need you all to know that THIS is the ultimate end of a world in which everyone has machines write for them. There will be no more thinking, no more creative expression, no more art or literature. It’s what C. S. Lewis called “the abolition of man.” We will be no different from cattle and our libraries will turn to dust.

When ease and entertainment become the highest good, it’s not shocking that people will find clever ways to avoid work and study. But nor should it be surprising when the ultimate fate of the Eloi becomes our own.

The food industry is poisoning us for profit and causing a massive spike in diabetes, heart attacks, strokes, and heart failure.

They add chemicals, preservatives, and artificial colorings to our food in order to cut costs because under our capitalist system their sole priority is profit, not the people’s nutritional health.

But why would our government allow the food industry to poison us? Because our government and both parties are bought off by the corporations making our food.

This is the core problem with allowing capital to control the government. Every law, every budget, and every decision made prioritizes corporate profits over the health, safety and well-being of the people.

And it worked. Republicans and some Democrats sold the false gospel of trickle-down economics. Trickle-down economics is not a theory, it is theft.

Since the late 1970s, mega donors and corporate special interests have been buying politicians in both political parties. And then those politicians turned around and rigged the economy to benefit their wealthy donors at our expense.

Between April and May 2026, a series of suspiciously timed trades in oil futures markets preceded major Iran war announcements—each tied to reporting by Axios.

On March 23, approximately $500–580 million in shorts were placed 15 minutes before Trump announced he was postponing strikes on Iran. Oil dropped.

On April 7, roughly $950–960 million in shorts were placed hours before Trump announced a two-week ceasefire with Iran. Oil fell around 15 percent.

On April 17, around $760 million in shorts were placed 20 minutes before Iran's foreign minister announced the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Oil dropped.

On April 21, approximately $430 million in shorts were placed 15 minutes before Trump extended the ceasefire. Oil dropped again.

On May 6, nearly $920 million to $1.7 billion in crude oil shorts were placed approximately 70 minutes before an Axios scoop claimed the U.S. and Iran were near a "14-point agreement." Oil dropped 12 percent. Traders made an estimated $125 million. Iran called the report "the Americans' wish list."
