@Joanna__Hardy I think men have traditionally identified objects as female, particularly machines like cars that used to be unreliable. Ships are female in honour presumably of Goddess Amphitrite, & have godmothers, except for Bismark, whose captain insisted on “he”. It was sunk of course.
