The Distance was released in December, 1982- the first single off the album, a cover of Rodney Crowell's "Shame On The Moon," became Seger's highest-charting single at the time, peaking at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Even Now" was released three months later and made it to #12. What are some of your favorite tracks from the album?

I Knew You When was released this week in 2017. Seger details how the album came to be in this snippet from a 2018 interview with Gary Graff.
GG: The album is dedicated to Glenn Frey, who of course was your good friend from the sixties in Michigan.
BS: About three months after he passed I did his memorial in L.A. That had about seven thousand people. Everyone was there — even [original Eagles bassist] Randy Meisner and J.D. [Souther] and Bernie Taupin. I saw everybody. About a month before that I got the idea of listening to some of my old songs, and I found I Knew You When and I thought, “Oh my gosh, this even sounds faintly like an Eagles song. This is perfect,” and I said: “That’d be a great title for a Glenn tribute record,” y’know? So when I saw [Frey’s widow] Cindy in LA I asked her, “Would you mind if I did that. It’s your legacy. I don’t want to mess it up.”
She said: “No, I’m sure it’ll be in good hands with you” and I said: “Okay, that’s what I’m gonna do,” and that was the beginning of it. I had I Knew You When, that was it. Then I started studying the old stuff and writing new stuff and recording a couple of covers, and a year and a half later it was done.edited 04:45 PM

This week in 1977: Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band toured Europe for the first time to promote the Night Moves album.
"when we played a gig in Paris, for three quarters of the concert they just sat there very patiently and politely applauded, but then when we played five rock and roll numbers at the end they went absolutely nuts . . . Glasgow was great – it could have been a Detroit audience that we were playing to, and although I kept worrying about the London dates, they were fantastic too. There was so much sheer energy all the way through the performance.”

"I've Been Working" was written by @vanmorrison for his 1970 album His Band And The Street Choir and covered by Bob three years later for Back In '72. The song became a setlist staple for Bob's live shows, including his Cobo Hall shows this week in 1975, recorded and released months later on Live Bullet.
