🎉🌳 Happy birthday to the iconic Buttonwood Tree in Por La Mar Park! Over 100 years old and still standing strong, this historic tree was originally designated in 1992. TODAY, as part of our Centennial Celebration, we’re proud to rededicate it as an official “Historic Tree!”

A symbol of Boca Raton’s natural beauty and deep-rooted heritage, the Buttonwood is a living reminder of our community’s commitment to preserving green spaces and 44 proud years as a Tree City USA. Here’s to a century of growth & roots!

Last week, as part of Boca Raton’s Centennial, we had the privilege of joining retired Fire Chief Tom Woods for a special lecture on the history of Old Betsy, our City’s very first fire engine.

Chief Wood guided us through 100 years of the City's fire service, tracing Old Betsy’s journey from her birth in 1925 through the eras of Fire Chiefs who served alongside her. A true symbol of Boca Raton’s humble beginnings, Old Betsy was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001 and received a Florida Historic Marker recognition in July 2024.

We’re incredibly lucky to have Chief Woods, help keep our history alive during this milestone year. Thank you to the Boca Raton Historical Society for hosting this meaningful event.
