Bear Creek(Irving)

The oldest known black community, founded by former slaves, in Dallas County is located in Irving. Jim Green, a former slave, bought land near Bear Creek in the 1850s.

Strolling & stepping comes from South African roots with the expression of dance through the hands and feet.
Gumboot dancing- originated in South Africa in the 1800s, the enslaved workers sent messages to each other in the darkness because the mine owners forbid conversations.

An educator, minister and a prophetic voice of his time, Founder Morse served at several academic and religious institutions. Founder Morse founded and chartered numerous Sigma chapters, especially in Florida.

An American attorney who was sworn in as the assistant attorney general for the Civil Rights Division at the U.S. Department of Justice in May 2021. She is the first woman confirmed to lead this division.

Former pro football player and Notable member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, who in 2002 became the all-time leading rusher in history. He retired after the 2004 season with 18,355 yards rushing. He also holds the record for most rushing touchdowns in a career. 🤘🏾
