Yet, figures like Laura Miti have consistently failed this test, trading genuine, impartial advocacy for selective outrage. While drawing a comfortable, hefty salary from her position, Miti chooses to look the other way as ordinary citizens and opposition figures face intense pressure and high-stakes legal targeting.

Rather than holding the establishment accountable such as addressing the heavy-handed actions against figures like Brian Mundubile and Makebi Zulu, she conveniently reserves her sharpest critiques for voices like Ambassador Emmanuel Mwamba who genuinely mean well for Mother Zambia.

​Miti’s public credibility collapses under the weight of her own double standards. She exhibits a disgraceful silence when systemic overreach occurs, offering no meaningful defense for targeted leaders facing severe political probes.

Instead of calling out President Hakainde Hichilema’s administration for closing off judicial avenues and frustrating constitutional rights, Miti prefers to throw stones at critics operating from abroad. In a recent display of elite detachment, she took to social media to mock Ambassador Mwamba for organizing protests from the safety of the United States, sneering at citizens while ignoring the root causes of public fury. It is a cynical posture coming from someone who abandoned the grassroots struggle of the suffering masses to cozy up to a failing regime.

​Ambassador Mwamba has remained a vital mouthpiece for a populace that feels deeply betrayed at the ballot box. Zambians turned out to vote and protected their votes, only to watch the democratic process hijacked by a regime that blocks recourse and stifles dissent. When citizens resort to peaceful expression, such as honking and whistling to signal their discontent, Miti finds it within herself to condemn them, proving precisely whose interests she serves.

​Why anyone continues to lend credence to Laura Miti is a profound puzzle, as she traded the people's struggle for proximity to power and material comfort. Instead of launching petty, deflection-laced attacks on Ambassador Mwamba to help state actors dent his image or influence his stay abroad, Miti should redirect her energy where it is actually required: advising President Hichilema to respect the rule of law and return stolen mandates to their rightful owners.

The Zambian people see right through the facade, and no amount of finger-pointing will erase the truth of who is standing with them and who has sold them out.
