When it comes to writing, I don't feel threatened by its existence at all; I feel vaguely miffed that I began to write in a time when all that hard work could be dismissed.
I think people might be tweeting about AI to bait Twitter traffic. That, or it's a "Thou dost protest too much" situation. I'm clearly in the minority, but I don't even think about it.
So, I submitted to a comp a year(ish) ago. Later, I sent a follow up as I’d seen the winners had been announced.
Is this a good sign? The cynic in me says not as much as I’m imagining.
I hope this lives on in the annals of the internet, and my daughters find it one day and know that everything worthwhile that I am and ever will be, is because of my love of them. And that I’ve known that for along time.
I have two daughters, 3 and 1. I’m a dad fulltime, I work fulltime (and then some.) My life atm is a blur. I don’t have time even to think. So, my novel exists in pockets of time I’ve stolen, and wrote without pause. In the end, this was the only way I would have ever done it.
I don’t know what I’m trying to say. I guess, it feels sometimes like the world covertly conspires to bring to a place you’re meant to be. And we’re doomed to realise that only through a rearview.
I had know my now fiancée for only a year when my daughter was born. Some say it was premature to have a child. I certainly considered that perhaps it was. But it has been the single greatest joy of my life. I love being a dad so, so much.
And before I had children, and before I cared how I performed at work, when I had all the time in the world, I didn’t write at all. Literally, the first thing I ever wrote was after my daughter was born. Even though, back then, I’d have considered myself a “writer”
How much do we think a writer’s social media presence helps with acceptances? I’m starting to think a lot. Which sucks. But maybe I’m jaded by lack of acceptances and a small SM presence lol
I can't seem to get anything new published lately. I feel like these are my best pieces, but they seem to miss the mark for editors. The upside is that, because of this disappointment, I've been so motivated that I'm now 80k words into the redraft of my WIP.
