What makes slow zombies so dangerous is that they never stop. Sure you can outrun them for a time but you need to sleep, they don't. You need to rest your legs and eat, find supplies in static locations. All the while that group of 5 zombies following becomes 10, 50, 100 you pick up more and more as you move away and they never stop slowly walking towards you unless you can genuinely lose them or something else makes more noise.

And even if you lose them for now, you've got 100 undead randomly roaming about and all it takes is one to spot you and you're back to a horde following you. It's like the train in the walking dead game. sure it'll easily leave a horde in the dust but every time you stop they're catching up. Days or weeks can pass and you look back and see 1,000 undead slowly shambling after you still. You basically constantly have to be on the move and changing direction or redirecting any that are following you, never being allowed to let your guard down and the moment you're seen it starts all back over again.
