As we near the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding, this milestone resonates deeply in a time of global uncertainty. Today, I write to you not just as the founder of BoneFrog Coffee, but as a Navy SEAL who served 25 years in the finest Navy on earth, an experience that forged my purpose and drives our mission.

For a quarter-century, I served alongside the most dedicated warriors in the SEAL Teams. We trained, fought, and stood together through the toughest challenges, bound by an unshakable commitment to GOD, COUNTRY, TEAM. From covert operations in hostile waters to standing watch in the world’s darkest corners, I saw the Navy’s ethos of Honor, Courage, and Commitment come alive. Those years taught me that true strength is found in sacrifice, and true freedom is defended by those who give everything to protect it.

The U.S. Navy’s strength is unmatched, projecting power across the globe to secure the seas and deter threats before they reach our shores. With cutting-edge technology and the grit of our Sailors, our fleet stands as a beacon of American resolve, ensuring peace through strength and safeguarding the American way of life. Today, August 6, marks a solemn and significant day for all of us at BoneFrog—a day to pause, reflect, and honor the memory of the brave men lost in the Extortion 17 mission in 2011. As the owner of BoneFrog, this day carries a deeply personal weight, as many of those who made the ultimate sacrifice were not just fellow SEALs but my friends and teammates.

On August 6, 2011, a CH-47 Chinook helicopter, call sign Extortion 17, was shot down in Afghanistan, claiming the lives of 31 American service members, including 17 Navy SEALs, along with a military working dog and Afghan allies. These men were brothers-in-arms, warriors of unparalleled courage, and individuals who embodied the values of duty, honor, and sacrifice. Their loss left an indelible mark on our community, their families, and all who knew them.

At BoneFrog, our mission has always been rooted in honoring the ethos of the SEAL teams—resilience, brotherhood, and an unwavering commitment to something greater than ourselves. August 6 serves as a stark reminder of the cost of freedom and the profound sacrifices made by those who answered the call. We mourn their loss, but we also celebrate their lives, their courage, and the legacy they left behind.

To the families of those lost, we extend our deepest respect and gratitude. Your loved ones’ service and sacrifice will never be forgotten, and we stand with you in remembrance. Their memory fuels our purpose at BoneFrog, inspiring us to live with integrity, strength, and gratitude every day.

For those who’ve served and for every Gold Star family, Monday is more than a day off—it’s a solemn reminder that freedom comes at a steep price, paid by those who believed in something greater than themselves.
