The question of "who are the people of God today?" has long been a controversial one, and today it is as contentious as it has ever been.

Seemingly every few days there is a flare up between neoconservatives and dispensationalist-influenced evangelicals on one side and the online right and traditional Protestants (and Catholics) on the other.

Just this past week, the subject of the term "Judeo-Christian" was the source of a considerable amount of vitriol (and inevitable talking past one another to score points).

In this book, which has long been promised to you, I lay out what the New Testament actually says, how the covenantal relationship between God and His people developed and was fulfilled in Jesus Christ.

I am not deluded enough to think this will be the final word on the question, but hope that at least I can contribute clarity to a subject of tremendous confusion, and in such a way that sheds light on the subject rather than simply more heat.

If you are unfamiliar with khat, you may be familiar with its active ingredient, cathinone, or synthetic cathinones like methcathinone, better known as M-Cat, or more broadly, “bath salts.”

Khat cultivation accounts for 5–6% of the whole Yemeni economy, a third of agricultural output, a quarter of irrigated farmland and a third of groundwater extraction.

That may have been okay if not for the fact that they barely export any of it. It is mostly used for domestic consumption.

Erickson's piece has, in fact, been roundly refuted, but he refuses to respond (nor will he respond to this). Among other things, all the statements about my opinions about World War II are completely false (and uncited; perhaps hallucinated by Claude, which he admits wrote his piece). The quotes are also mostly false by omission; for example, the quote about unconstraint of the state is, in full, "But, properly viewed, the state is not constrained externally; it contains within itself, as an organic outgrowth of a virtuous society, its own constraints." The meaning is, obviously, the opposite of what he claims, which makes his "quote" a malicious falsehood. (This is, of course, why he never link to any of my actual writings.) Similarly, the state has "limited ends and unlimited means"; he omits the first part, again a falsehood. All this and much more shows actual malice.

Right at the very beginning of Erick Erickson's hit piece we find this mendacious selective quote. The full formulation in Haywood's Foundationalist Manifesto is that the state should possess "limited ends and unlimited means." In other words, the state's role should be very strictly delineated, but within that scope it should be unconstrained i.e. truly sovereign. Haywood contrasts this with the liberal democratic state, which has limited means but unlimited ends, meaning that the state takes on an effectively unlimited range of responsibilities but is not capable of executing any of them satisfactorily.

Haywood is very clear about this. Unless Erickson is very stupid, it is not possible that he misunderstood Haywood. But Erickson is not trying to understand. He is pointing and shrieking.
