libraries literally aren't just places to obtain books for free. they're some of the few public spaces left in our society where you're allowed to exist without the expectation of spending money.
I'm finally reading Dune. This quote, which is in the first few pages, hits hard:
"Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them."
Being part of a generation that was told “Wikipedia is not a source” makes it genuinely baffling to me that jobs are now telling people to just use ChatGPT for everything.
“Just so you know, agriculture uses more water than data centres and golf courses combined.”
Yes, but we have to eat. We don’t have to use AI or play golf. This is a useless argument.
I love physical books. I love audiobooks. I love ebooks. who gives a fuck about the format someone is consuming their literature from. it will always be better than not bothering to read at all
I came across a theory that AI is starting to make more mistakes because the internet is increasingly polluted with AI slop. The idea of AI cannibalising itself into obscurity is one of my favourite things ever. I hope it is true and I hope it becomes impossible to fix.
