RUSSIA HAS LOST UP TO 1.4 MILLION TROOPS AND STILL CAN’T DEFEAT UKRAINE, KELLOGG SAYS 🇷🇺🇺🇦🇺🇸
Keith Kellogg has delivered a devastating assessment of Russia’s invasion, arguing that Moscow has sacrificed an extraordinary number of soldiers for minimal territorial gains and that Putin should finally recognise the limits of what his army can achieve.
According to Kellogg, Russian forces have suffered between 1.2 million and 1.4 million killed or wounded since the invasion began, figures he considers conservative.
Despite those staggering losses, Kellogg insists that Russia is not winning.
He argues that, beyond the territory seized during the initial invasion across Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson, Moscow has gained only approximately 1% of Ukraine’s territory, excluding Crimea. Ukrainian counterattacks have further complicated Russian efforts to consolidate their advances.
His message to Putin is blunt: accept that the military campaign has reached its limits, declare victory domestically and end the fighting.
“Just declare victory, go home, call it a day.”
Kellogg also addressed Moscow’s demand that Ukraine surrender the remaining Ukrainian-controlled territory in Donetsk, explaining why Zelenskyy refuses to accept it.
Having personally visited the area, Kellogg described its fortified positions as Ukraine’s last major defensive terrain protecting approaches toward Kharkiv and Kyiv.
Three heavily fortified Ukrainian cities form part of that defensive system, making the territory strategically important far beyond its geographical size.
Surrendering those positions would mean abandoning defensive infrastructure that Ukrainian forces have spent years protecting and potentially exposing other areas to future Russian attacks.
Kellogg’s casualty estimates and territorial calculations are his assessments, rather than independently established totals. His central argument, however, is that Russia’s enormous losses have not translated into the decisive military victory Putin sought.
After years of fighting and up to 1.4 million Russian casualties, Kellogg says Moscow still cannot force Ukraine to surrender Donetsk.

PUTIN’S OIL PROFITS ARE PLUNGING, AND TRUMP WANTS UKRAINE TO STOP STRIKING REFINERIES 🇺🇦🇷🇺🇺🇸
Russia’s oil industry is under growing financial pressure, with Bloomberg reporting that Rosneft’s net profit has fallen by nearly 20%.
Ukraine’s continuing strikes against Russian refineries are designed to deepen that pressure by disrupting fuel production and targeting an industry that provides critical revenue to Moscow’s war economy. The precise contribution of those strikes to Rosneft’s falling profits, however, has not been established.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump is demanding that Ukraine stop attacking Russian energy infrastructure, arguing that the strikes should end as part of efforts to contain the conflict and its economic consequences.
That creates a serious disagreement over how to pressure Moscow into negotiations.
Kyiv sees its refinery campaign as a way to weaken Russia’s ability to finance and sustain the invasion. Washington wants those attacks restricted, even as Russian missiles and drones continue striking Ukrainian cities and energy facilities.
Critics argue that limiting Ukraine’s attacks without securing equivalent Russian concessions could ease pressure on Putin’s war economy.
Trump says he wants to end the war. But the question his policy raises is unavoidable: would stopping Ukrainian refinery strikes make peace more likely, or simply give Russia’s energy industry room to recover?

Russian oil giant Rosneft is reportedly slowing some refinery repairs because repeated Ukrainian strikes are making the cycle of damage and reconstruction too expensive to sustain -Bloomberg
Ukraine’s refinery campaign has reportedly caused major damage to Russia’s oil sector.

And now, of all times, Trump comes along wanting to put a stop to the attacks on oil refineries…
Putin’s war in Ukraine is inflicting devastating damage on the company Rosneft, Bloomberg reports.
▪️ According to Bloomberg’s calculations—based on public data from both countries—Ukrainian drones have carried out at least 114 attacks on Russian oil refineries since the beginning of the year. That is more than double the number seen during the same period last year.
▪️ These attacks have pushed processing volumes at Russian refineries to their lowest levels in years, led to fuel shortages, and forced Moscow to restrict exports of gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel. In September alone, Ukrainian strikes damaged five of the company’s 15 refineries located in the European part of Russia.
▪️ The Ryazan refinery was hit particularly hard; it was targeted repeatedly just as Rosneft was attempting to resume operations there. Another facility, the Syzran refinery, has spent much of the last six months either completely offline or running at less than a third of its capacity. Furthermore, the Tuapse refinery on the Black Sea coast has been shut down since April.
▪️ The constant need to repair damaged facilities complicates operations and drives up costs to a level that—as Rosneft representatives have admitted internally—is unsustainable in the long term. Consequently, repairs at some refineries are being intentionally slowed down; work that should only take a few days is now dragging on for weeks, according to sources.
▪️ Sanctions are further exacerbating the situation by restricting access to spare parts. Rosneft is therefore forced to rely on Russian-made alternatives or imports from China—goods that can take months to procure and are not always compatible with existing equipment.
▪️ The company’s financial losses are mounting. In the first half of the year, Rosneft’s net profit fell by nearly a fifth to 200 billion rubles ($2.4 billion). By the end of June, the ratio of net debt to EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) had risen to 1.8x—the highest level in more than five years, according to quarterly reports dating back to 2020.
▪️ Rosneft’s troubles coincide with signs of financial distress at the Credit Bank of Moscow (MKB)—an institution that market participants and officials associate with the sphere of influence of Sechin and his oil giant. As reported by Bloomberg, it emerged last month that MKB holds $8 billion in non-performing loans on its books.
