Ukraine has just solved one of the deadliest problems for its bomber drones

Dropping low to aim used to make Ukrainian drones easy targets for enemy rifle fire. A new guided munition called Firefly, developed inside Ukraine's Ministry of Defense, changes that completely

It strikes targets up to 800 meters away, calculates its own trajectory after release, and corrects course to the target while ignoring Russian electronic warfare

That means Ukrainian drones can now destroy enemy bunkers and fortifications from a safe distance

A Filipino sailor stranded in the Black Sea after a Russian drone struck his cargo ship has been rescued by Ukraine's maritime border guards.

The crew member of the Venturo had spent a night adrift in a lifeboat after the 17 July attack. Ukrainian border guards located him the following evening and carried out the rescue in darkness despite the continued threat of Russian drone strikes.

The operation brought the sailor safely ashore, and he did not require medical treatment.

Russia launched the largest ballistic missile attack on Kyiv overnight on 19 July, underscoring one of the biggest threats facing civilians in the Ukrainian capital.

Ballistic missiles are among the most dangerous weapons Russia uses. They travel at extremely high speeds, leaving civilians with only minutes – and sometimes less – to reach shelter after air raid sirens sound. This is impossible for most, whose nearest shelters are further away, and being outside during an attack is usually more dangerous than being at home.

Unlike cruise missiles or drones, ballistic missiles can only be intercepted by advanced air defense systems such as the US-made Patriot, which remain in limited supply.

Russia has stepped up ballistic missile attacks on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities in recent months, appearing to exploit the limited availability of these specialized air defense systems.

Strengthening protection against ballistic missiles remains one of Ukraine’s highest defense priorities.

Russia launched a mass drone attack on Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia overnight, injuring at least two people and igniting fires across the city.

Strikes set ablaze a furniture factory warehouse, industrial buildings, a university building, a residential roof, garages, and other civilian structures. Homes nearby were also damaged by blast waves and shrapnel.

Firefighters were repeatedly forced to take shelter as the threat of follow-up Russian strikes complicated efforts to extinguish the fires. All blazes have now been brought under control.

Russian guided bomb strikes on Sumy, Ukraine, killed one man and left others injured after hitting both an industrial area and a residential neighborhood.

Rescuers recovered the victim's body from the rubble of a two-story apartment building while firefighters extinguished blazes at other impact sites.

Sumy and the surrounding oblast have faced near-daily Russian attacks on civilians in the last several months, with attacks only increasing in the border region.
