I share with them that I wasn’t a very good science student, and I wasn’t motivated to study when I was in HS. But I love learning new facts and I love looking things up, and I ask them to join me and they love doing it in class. We constantly look up questions #mhspln

I find many students have BYOT at school, not at home and are willing to do Canvas assignments while at school. It’s helping for many that I now print Canvas assignments in a hardcopy form and post on the bulletin board. #mhspln

I also don’t want to be an obstacle. If a student is willing to do the work I’m willing to help them figure out how including verbal answers for things that should have been written. Learning is the objective, not work. #mhspln

A4: students explain that they have to do assignments around jobs, or they don’t have access to technology. HW requirements are rare, but I think kids from poverty have fewer work skills that will push them to complete their work. #mhspln

I agree with Mrs. Clifford. Difficult to see how I can help them beyond the scope of teaching the lesson that has to be crammed into the same. #mhspln

As some of the people in the book said, the students don’t see themselves as living in poverty, therefore don’t see a need to rise above it. I think that’s the problem that I fight daily: do the work, study, improve your life #mhspln

I’m afraid that students believe in their status quo, don’t see they can change it. They continue to embrace the lifestyle continues the poverty, and I don’t know how to talk to them without insulting their current situation. #mhspln

I still feel challenged about determining who is in the greatest need. Students are so on willing to share some of those details, that I think I’m still in the dark about who needs help and what kind of help. So I try to offer all of it to everybody #mhspln
