Seventy Years of Grace
On this blessed day of your 70th birthday, our beloved Pontiff, Pope Leo XIV, I join the Universal Church and all people of goodwill in congratulating you, Holy Father.
Your journey through the years has been a living witness to God’s grace, shaping you into a shepherd whose life speaks of faith, humility, and courage. As you continue to preside over the Church in communion with the bishops, my heartfelt prayer is that the Lord will keep guiding and guarding you, granting you strength, peace, and joy in the sacred task you carry.
It is profoundly significant that your birthday falls on the Feast of the Triumph of the Cross. This sacred feast reminds us that the Cross, once a symbol of suffering, has become the sign of victory, redemption, and unshakeable hope. In the same way, your own life reflects how faith, perseverance, and fidelity to Christ can transform trials into triumphs.
May the Lord strengthen you to carry the Cross with joy, enlighten your path with wisdom, and bless your years ahead with health, peace, and lasting fulfilment.
Ad multos annos!

₦ 142 Billion for Bus Terminals: Another Evidence of misplaced Priority
The difference between the success and failure of the development in any nation is how you prioritise your scarce resources.
The recent announcement that a sum of ₦142 billion has been approved by the Federal Government for the construction of one bus terminal in each of our six geopolitical zones further affirms the lack of competence, lack of focus and poor leadership.
In the 2024 budget, which is the operational budget today, the entire budget of all the teaching hospitals across all the federal universities in the country, as well as the federal psychiatric centres, is under ₦100 billion, yet the government has approved ₦142 billion for bus terminals.
This is disturbing, considering that Health is one of the most critical areas of development, which is deteriorating and remains grossly underfunded. WHO recently reported that over 20 million Nigerians are living with mental health issues.
This is not only a misplaced priority but a tragic irony of our country.
This is not governance.

Eid al-Adha: A Time for Reflection, Sacrifice, and Leadership
As our Muslim brothers and sisters celebrate Eid al-Adha, I join them in thanking Almighty Allah for the grace of sacrifice, unity, and peace that this sacred occasion represents. This solemn festivity reminds us of the enduring power of faith, obedience, and selflessness.
This celebration is also a time for deep reflection on the values that bind us as a people - compassion, justice, and a shared responsibility for one another, especially the most vulnerable in our midst.
May it especially be an opportunity for our leaders at all levels to reflect on the noble virtues of leadership - sacrifice, accountability, humility, and service - and apply them becomingly in the discharge of public duty.
I wish all Nigerians a peaceful and joyful Sallah. May this season renew our collective hope, strengthen our unity, and inspire us all to work toward a better, more inclusive Nigeria. Eid Mubarak!
