Our intestinal rehabilitation unit recently celebrated its first awards ceremony.
The event marks a milestone in recognising the dedication, compassion, and teamwork that make the team so special.
Clinical nurse manager Sarita Dhamala-Bhatta says: “This celebration was more than just an awards ceremony — it reflected the everyday moments when our people go the extra mile, lift one another up, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of our patients and their families.
“Each role, whether clinical or behind-the-scenes, plays an essential part in delivering safe, compassionate, and patient-centred care. Our event honoured the multidisciplinary nature of our team – from doctors, nurses, healthcare assistants and allied health professionals, to domestic colleagues, ward clerks, and kitchen staff, and everyone in between.
“It showcased not only individual excellence but the strength of our unity — a diverse group of professionals coming together with one shared goal: to care.
“Let this be a reminder: your work matters. Your kindness matters. You matter.”
We’d like to join the IRU team in congratulating all the winners – and to say a huge thank you to the whole team for their extraordinary work for our patients and communities.

We are now recruiting for a study on perineal hernias.
These are bulges in the undercarriage which can occur after bowel cancer surgery. There is little known about how they impact patients.
We are recruiting people who have experienced perineal hernia to take part in an interview with a researcher
