@BowTiedCyber Layered security isn’t just for the interwebs. Think about how you can apply this to other aspects of your life. @BowTiedCyber’s infographic is a great start.
@WifiMoneyPlant Met Mrs. Silverback when I was a 21-year-old E-4. We dated/cohabitated for several years and finally tied the knot five years later. Young Howler Monkey turned 21 this summer. If you find the right one, no reason to wait.
@BowTiedItaliano Fantastic point. You need to do some sort of minimal threat modeling to understand who/what you're trying to defend against. Skill level? Focus?
Back when I was doing financial planning most of my clients fell into the HNW category ($5MM - $20MM net worth. NOTE: This was MANY years ago when a million was still “real money”).
We essentially used life insurance for three purposes:
· Income replacement
· Liquidity event
· Charitable inclination
For income replacement: Even if you are reasonably wealthy, if your family depends on your current income to maintain their standard of living, you should have a plan in place to replace it in the event of your death.
For liquidity events: Many of my clients were wealthy “on paper.” They had businesses, ranches, or farms that were valued at over $10MM. However, that didn’t mean that they had a high degree of liquidity (cash in the bank). In those cases, we used life insurance to provide the necessary liquidity to pay any estate taxes when they died. You don’t want your kids to have to sell off the family business or the fourth-generation ranch just to pay Uncle Sam.
Finally, some folks were just charitably inclined and wanted to leave a legacy. Insurance was a useful tool for that without impacting your bequest to your family.
If none of the three apply, you probably don’t need life insurance.
NOTE: This is not financial advice and only applies to individuals with significant assets. If you have a family and they depend on your income, you definitely need life insurance.
I remember listening to an audio tour of Maui while driving on the Road to Hana.
It was like a four hour loop.
“And they came to island and lived in peace and prosperity. Until another group showed up, killed everybody, and took their shit.”
“And this new group lived in peace and prosperity. Until another group showed up, killed everybody, and took all their shit.”
“And then this group lived in peace and prosperity. Until…..”
I’m by no means a “gold bug,” but what our own government has done to our currency is shameful.
The biggest tragedy is that most Americans don’t realize what government caused inflation has done to them and blame “greedy corporations” when the lifestyle their parents had becomes unattainable.
