I’m going insane seeing all the “Destiny wasnt profitable” posts.
Not meeting expectations and not being profitable are two different things. Destiny definitely made money but it wasn’t enough for the execs.
I like marathon, but I like destiny more. If I had to choose one to survive (which seems to be the case), then it would be destiny.
That doesn’t mean I hate marathon. I have a preference in a situation our corporate overlords have decided needs to be zero sum.
Good IP + good business decisions = money printer video game
The former is supposed to be harder than the latter, but Bungie’s always had it reversed. That’s what I think frustrates so many people
“If you’re telling me Destiny wasn’t one of the most profitable IPs in gaming history you are out of your minds fellas… you’re telling me Sony came in there and dropped 3.6 Billion on an ‘unprofitable IP’, really?”
#WeWantDestiny3#SaveDestiny
Never shut up about Destiny. And if someone finally manages to make a game that truly captures the magic Destiny has provided, support the hell out of that game. Don't go dark into the night. Get on Sony's ass forever.
Many thanks to players reporting that the Duality Dungeon was not available at Master difficulty this week.
To make sure players can get in and go for Tier 5 armor sets, we've added this to the featured dungeons slate. This will remain featured until the issue is resolved.
🚨NEW: Bungie is reportedly set to lay off at least 50% of its workforce this summer (around 400 employees) following the end of Destiny 2’s live service development - https://t.co/kx436Womuj
@ChodeKiller two things can be true:
-bungie's business decision-making has been atrocious since destiny's inception
-we still like destiny and don't want it to die
@VladimirNagyy the more detailed explanation is that when you have revenue that large, you can afford to take risks, which includes dedicating 0.5% of revenue to maintaining an IP with massive name rec.
