Today’s Supreme Court decision effectively guts a key pillar of the Voting Rights Act, freeing state legislatures to gerrymander legislative districts to systematically dilute and weaken the voting power of racial minorities - so long as they do it under the guise of “partisanship” rather than explicit “racial bias.” And it serves as just one more example of how a majority of the current Court seems intent on abandoning its vital role in ensuring equal participation in our democracy and protecting the rights of minority groups against majority overreach.
The good news is that such setbacks can be overcome. But that will only happen if citizens across the country who cherish our democratic ideals continue to mobilize and vote in record numbers - not just in the upcoming midterms or in high profile races, but in every election and every level.

EXCLUSIVE: 'George Michael: The Faith Tour,' a restored and remastered feature based on long lost film, is being lined up for a worldwide big screen release later this year, Deadline can reveal.
George Michael Entertainment and Mercury Studios are behind the new and never-seen-before project, which will be accompanied by the release of an 18-track album of previously unheard performances by the pop icon.
The film’s distributor and release dates are being kept under wraps for now but when it plays in theaters the plan is for it to open with an original short film by photographer Mary McCartney — daughter of Paul McCartney — contextualising the tour’s cultural significance. The short includes voiceover from an unheard interview given by Michael alongside unseen images captured by American photographer Herb Ritts and behind the-scenes footage of the Faith music video
