Right now is a great time of year to do some small-creek fishing up in the high-country with fall colors at their peak.

First full day in Iceland this year, doing a little evening fishing for brown trout. This beauty fell for a Kelly Galloup's Slick Willy fly, which was an effective pattern for me last year on this river.

The Gates of Lodore. This is where John Wesley Powell began his famous trip of exploration down the Green River and the Colorado River. We visited it after floating the Green further upstream.
Have any of you ever taken a trip through this canyon? If so, how was it. Was it as beautiful and adventurous as it looks?

My son & I leave for Iceland one month from today. There is so much more to Iceland than just the brown trout, Arctic char, and Atlantic salmon. Have you been? What did you like the most about your visit?

I was taught growing up that to revive a fish you move it back and forth in the water, pushing water through its gills. Three years ago, I was corrected, and advised to simply face the trout upstream and let the current flow through their gills naturally. It's not good for the fish to have water move through their gills in the wrong direction.
Ever since then I've done just that. This fish was a little sluggish and needed a little time. It swam-off just fine after a minute facing upstream into the current.
With water temps high, we all need to be careful to revive fish properly, and to not even fish when temps get too high.
