I work around high-powered AC drives that use a closed-loop ionized water system. Once a month we run various tests to ensure the water is still within tolerances. They are either using fresh water on purpose to contaminate local supply, drive up the cost of local supply, exhaust the local supply, or as a cheaper option. There isn’t any reason to use local fresh water.
