@trujillo80374@realsashastone Take a better look. Those requirements are not a big deal really. There are 4 standards and 2 out of the 4 are required for consideration. So, movie does not need diverse cast to compete for Oscar if they meet other requirments
@unseenfilms Opening weekend totals only show how many people were drawn by advertising and how much money studio earned. Just because people went to see it doesn't mean they loved it that much.
@Bigdaddyvinz_@filmystic I wouldn't mind her playing Jamey Bond either. I like James Bond films and Lupita, but anyone can play a fictional spy. Goddess from Greek mythology is something else
@metroadlib@jowrotethis If they read like this for school, I can understand. You don't care for it, but you need it, so you speed through it. Other than than - why even read?
@ChiTownPanthera@lavern_spicer I don't know what that means and I don't care. I just think it's stupid that Hollywood takes centuries old myth that are part of the culture of the still existing people and use it for whatever the purpose of this casting is. It certainly is not accuracy, historical or cultural
@ChiTownPanthera@lavern_spicer Greeks call themselves Helleni. See the similarity?
The only reason Lupita is cast is a woke bs that serves white Americans to feel better about their own racism and slavery.
This is small part and no black person should settle for that.
Character is Greek and fom Greek culture
@ChiTownPanthera@lavern_spicer You are annoying. Fictional or not, Greeks did not create a goddess and named her Helen (which means Greek) because her ethnicity is not important
@karl_delo@firstshowing I never considered my 'reviews' as reviews. They are just comments, my personal impressions of the film. Letterboxd is like a journal for many users.
@RuggedTheDragon@fandompulse It is not requirment. He does not have to have diverse cast to qualify for Oscar, he can have a diverse crew. Academy knows some movies don't make sense to be diverse, like this one
@anne_goldgar That should be the point of such lists. Since there is no best and it cannot be definitive, so there's always gonna be discussions and disagrements and that's fine. You are looking at it in a healthy way
@ChiTownPanthera@lavern_spicer No point in arguing over this. I explained to you what myth is, but for some people it's obviously either fact or fiction. Usually Americans.
I don't care anymore. Nolan's Odissey is just American entertainment and that's it
@ChiTownPanthera@lavern_spicer I*m saying myths are based on past events, that may or may not have happened, but the culture that created those myths belived they happened and the memory had been passed through generations with fantastic elements added to them. All of it had a meaning for that culture.
@SirBylHolte Most movies lately are political manifesto. They simply cannot be just an interesting story.
Directors are too interested in building their name of being autheurs with their own distinct style or a voice of an opressed group.
